The People's Court?
If you caught C-Span today you saw Orrin Hatch and many others proposing legislation to stop "frivolous" class-action lawsuits.
There is a movement going on in the senate. For every action there is a cause, especially when it comes to old white-haired politicians putting down the golf clubs to pass legislation. So we got to see senators taking a stand for business organizations. No surprise there, we all know who funds the campaigns of our patriotic politicians. Business organizations with the cashflow to fund a huge lobbyist industry, wow! It's great they're creating jobs! It was impressive to see the senators taking a stand for the court-abused companies. I mean, since when have you seen senators working as a pre-paid legal defense proudly fighting corporate Americas battle to stop losing in court. Imagine that, citizens actually winning in court against powerful corporations. Companies that make more in a year than an entire group of citizens filing the class action lawsuit makes in a lifetime! I'm so glad the senate has rode to the rescue.
Taking the senators word at face value, their case sounds good. Frivolous lawsuits...who wants that? But who trusts senators at face value these days? Not you if you know what's good for you. A politician will call your polluted river a frivolous lawsuit with a smile and a salute to the flag. So looking behind the senate's sales pitch, what is happening is that US citizens have been filing claims against business organizations. In many cases it's the only option we have to prevent air pollution, river pollution, and many other ways that we're ripped off by companies that are hot & hungry for profit gains.
So citizens can't trust their senators to hold business organizations accountable, and now we can't even take the company to court.
Just great. Way to go Senate! God bless America.
