I don't think the NYT needed any leak to pull off this scoop. I'm not a big Bush basher, but let's face it, Iraq ain't doin so hot. So Bush being critical of Iraq's PM is no secret. What was Bush going to say at this meeting ... "Great job and stay the course" ?! C'mon, the country is in the middle of a full fledged secterian power grab ... better known as a civil war. If it's not a civil war, than neither was the one in the US. Bottom line, NYT didn't tell anyone anything new. But the sad fact is that if ush wants to control Iraq, he will have to do some things that are directly contrary to democracy and Western human values. Not going to happen.

I don't know if it's a Civil War in the way that the US one was. It's more like gang warfare... Eastside vs. Westside kind of thing... and a lot of different warlords/mob bosses/clerics involved.
It's chaos. Figuring out how to fix this might give us insight into how to fix the inner cities in America. Somehow I don't think violaiting Western human rights values is going to be on the table, nor should it be. It will likely exacerbate the situation. Saddam kept stability in the region... but he also exacerbated ethnic differences. Common problem all over the world. And it's one we need to figure out how to stop if the world will ever see peace.
