Default Bill Moyers

Quote:
A producer is a saboteur who tries to infiltrate the passivity of viewers and to create impressions that are lasting.

America's corporate and political elites now form a regime of their own and they're privatizing democracy. All the benefits - the tax cuts, policies and rewards flow in one direction: up.

Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvelous.

Democracy belongs to those who exercise it.

For the first time in our history, ideology and theology hold a monopoly of power in Washington.

Hyperbole was to Lyndon Johnson what oxygen is to life.

I think if Kerry were to win this in a tight race, I think there would be an effort to mount a coup, quite frankly.

I work for him despite his faults and he lets me work for him despite my deficiencies.

Ideas are great arrows, but there has to be a bow. And politics is the bow of idealism.

Our very lives depend on the ethics of strangers, and most of us are always strangers to other people.

Secrecy is the freedom tyrants dream of.

The printed page conveys information and commitment, and requires active involvement. Television conveys emotion and experience, and it's very limited in what it can do logically. It's an existential experience - there and then gone.

There are honest journalists like there are honest politicians - they stay bought.

War, except in self-defense, is a failure of moral imagination.

We don't care really about children as a society and television reflects that indifference to children as human beings.

We see more and more of our Presidents and know less and less about what they do.

What's right and good doesn't come naturally. You have to stand up and fight for it - as if the cause depends on you, because it does.

The framers of our nation never imagined what could happen if big government, big publishing, and big broadcasters ever saw eye to eye in putting the public’s need for news second to their own interests — and to the ideology of market economics. The greatest moments in the history of the press came not when journalists made common cause with the state but when they stood fearlessly independent of it.

I believe democracy requires a ‘sacred contract’ between journalists and those who put their trust in us to tell them what we can about how the world really works.

Free and responsible government by popular consent just can’t exist without an informed public.
Bill Moyers
Bob Schieffer would be a very close second.

For the record, anyone who votes for "Jon Stewart" is a freakin' retard. Jon Stewart is a hack comedian who has a show on a comedy network. Same thing goes for anyone stupid enough to write in "Bill Maher."

I like Tim Russert. But I think DuH2's choices should be on the list instead of Sean Hannity and John Stewart.

hmmm good names. Mayhaps a generous mod would be kind enough to edit/add them to the poll list.

Again...Bill Maher is a hack comedian who hosts a show that purposely lampoons politics. He is hardly a bonafide "newsperson."

Yeah, but then again FoxNews is now devoting airtime for fakenews comedy shows. Goose, gander.

Plus theres the old saying about how in order to find out how things are really going in the kingdom, you should ask the court jester. Still true to this day.

I have to agree with that one, Tim is the best and clearly one of the least, if not the least, partisan newscaster on television.

If FoxNews is giving this clown airtime, then I'm sincerely disappointed in them.

Don't get me wrong, the guy has a decent sense of humor, and his HBO show is popular. However, a "newsperson" he ain't.
