TO DIE IN JERUSALEM - a film about the confilct
I had the opportunity to see To Die in Jerusalem, at its premiere screening in NYC at a film festival-DocFest07 last week, and I must say that I was truely moved. I really felt like the film depicted the reality of the situation in the Israeli-Palestine conflict from a very personal point of view, however it is a microcosm for the entire conflict. The documentary follows two mothers, one an Israeli whose teenage daughter was killed by a suicide bomber, and the other, a Palestinian mom whose teenage daughter was the bomber. I think this is an amazing film to watch, and I recall Ambassador Dennis Ross saying, at the Q/A after the DocFest screening, that he'd like for this film to be shown to schools both in Israel and Palestine, and for the children to be asked to try and understand the other side's perspective of conflict- to induce empathy and understanding amongst the youth. It starts airing on HBO tomorrow Nov.1st, so I would highly recommend for everyone to see it if they can. Not only is it centered around a huge political issue, but it really gives a true human perspective to the crisis.
