Default Power plant in Gaza destroyed by Israeli airstrike

http://www.boston.com/news/world/mid..._by_us_agency/

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- The Palestinian power plant bombed by Israeli forces Tuesday is insured by a US government agency, and US officials say they expect American funds to be used to pay for the damage.

The destruction of the 140-megawatt reactor, the only one in the Gaza Strip, threatens to create a humanitarian disaster because the plant supplies electricity to two-thirds of Gaza's 1.3 million residents and operates pumps that provide water supplies.

But paying a claim on the plant, which was insured for $48 million, could prove problematic for the United States, which cut off funding for all infrastructure projects in the Palestinian territories after the militant group Hamas won legislative elections in January.

Administration officials said the restrictions on working with a Hamas-led government could further complicate the repair of the electric facility, which could take weeks, if not months, to fix because of the escalating violence in Gaza.
Wow, talk about a sticky situation. I hope they can bring the plant back online soon, otherwise thousands of civilians will be without power or running water.

And all because some idiot extremists had to kidnap Israelis. One must wonder if there will ever be peace over there.

Default easier?

As a Palestinian spokesperson pointed out; how is it going to be easier to find terrorists now that they have put out all the lights? And what of saving the poor soldier - the stated aim of the operation - one assumes that if he survives the rage of his kidnappers at the invasion he will have to suffer the lack of food, water and sanitation to which they are subject. Well thought-out plan, I must say....or was it something else?

[sarcasm] Yeah i'm sure them kidnapping one person just forced Israel to destroy the lives of thousands of people in Palestine & kidnap loads of members of Palestine's government.[/sarcasm] It's all because Israel has an imperialistic foreign policy - much like her best friend overseas.

There has been no casualties since the incursion (or invasion, whatever) has occured, so please dont make up stuff like the "thousands part".

Kidnapping the members was a bargaining chip (un-officially) to get the soldier back. But of course even though it was Hamas that started this, it's Isreals fault.

Excuse me? What evidence do we have of that?

Wouldn't that be like blaming the entire Republican Party for the excesses of one or two of its Klansmen?

See, this is exactly why we should stay out of that whole mess.

And we definitely shouldn't be supporting that madness by funding it.
