Car blast slays 18 elite soldiers February 15, 2007 TEHRAN: Eighteen members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards were killed yesterday when a car loaded with explosives blew up near the bus taking them to work in the country's southeast. The car stopped at about 6.30am (2pm AEDT) in front of the bus on the outskirts of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan Province. The car's occupants fled on motorbikes seconds before the car exploded, the Islamic Republic News Agency said last night. It called the attack in the Ahmadabad district a terrorist operation. "This blind terrorist operation led to the martyrdom of 18 citizens of Zahedan," IRNA quoted a Guards commander Qasem Rezaei, as saying. The Sunni militant group Jundallah (Soldiers of God) claimed responsibility for the attack, which Brigadier General Rezaei blamed on "insurgents and elements of insecurity". A statement attributed to Jundallah on a website said the attack was a "response to the recent executions" of militants found guilty of bombings in the southwestern Khuzestan province. Jundallah has been blamed in recent months for a string of armed incidents along Iran's borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...5-2703,00.html -------------------- The words "car blast" and "soldiers" is usually bad news.. but this one brought an evil grin to my face.

If they get wind of this, Democrats will begin Senate Intelligence hearings on why Bush failed to protect those soldiers.
Nancy Pelosi will demand to know why she wasn't notified of this despicable disastrous plan of Bush's (and of course, a Boeing 737 with her picture on the side.) Following this, Congress will draft a non-binding resolution banning the color green. (But only for one day)

Wow. Over on the "traitor" thread I was just describing how a suicide bombing can be a legitimate military tactic when aimed solely at military targets.
This wasn't suicide, but it demonstrates the point nicely. BTW, I tend to have my doubts about just how "elite" the Revolutionary Guards really are. These are the guys who committed human wave attacks with teenagers in the Iran-Iraq war. They're notable for their political loyalty, not their military prowess.

Iranian police battle insurgents Bomb is second this week for restive province By Ali Akbar Dareini The Associated Press Posted February 17 2007 Tehran, Iran · Police and insurgents clashed after a bombing in southeastern Iran late Friday near the site where an explosion killed 11 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards this week, Iranian news agencies reported. "Minutes ago, the sound of a bomb explosion was heard in one of Zahedan's streets," the state-run news agency IRNA said, without giving more details. The Fars news agency said gunfights broke out between police and armed insurgents after the explosion. Fars quoted the governor of Zahedan, Hasan Ali Nouri, as saying the blast was a "sound bomb explosion"-- a device that creates a loud boom but that usually does not cause casualties. The explosion was at a school in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province, which is on the border with Pakistan, Fars said. "The insurgents began shooting at people after the explosion. Clashes are continuing between police and the armed insurgents. Police have cordoned off the area," the Fars agency said. On Wednesday in Zahedan, a car bomb blew up a bus carrying Revolutionary Guards, killing 11. A Sunni Muslim militant group called Jundallah, or God's Brigade, which has been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops, has claimed responsibility for the Wednesday bombing. Iran has accused the United States of backing militants to destabilize the country. Tensions between Tehran and Washington are growing over allegations of Iranian involvement in attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and over Iran's nuclear activities. The IRNA quoted an unnamed "responsible official" late Friday as saying that one of those arrested on charges of involvement in Wednesday's bombing, identified as Nasrollah Shanbe Zehi, has confessed that the attacks were part of alleged U.S. plans to provoke ethnic and religious violence in Iran. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/nat...ws-nationworld --------------- Ohyeh? Prove it

Now Iran is displaying what it says are captured cartridges with U.S. markings on them -- a clear attempt to mirror the Iranian EFP dog-and-pony show put on by the U.S. a week ago.
I don't really believe them, of course. But their claim seems to have just as much evidence behind it as the U.S. one. And would anyone be surprised to learn we were funding anti-Iran militants?
