Probably true, but who knows? The Reagan Administration likely would have traded arms for the prisoners. The Bush Administration likely would have refused to talk to them and instead severely threatened them, escalating the problem and all but ensuring their execution.

You need to quit acting like your the expert on Ft. Benning. I've lived there 3 times and my husband works there now. I know one of the commanders at the School of the Americas. I'm not even a supporter of SOA, but you've obviously been reading a lot of trash and believing every word of it.

Do they still let 16 year olds join the military in Great Britain?
I was only fifteen, a boy soldier. And yes they still do. See Army Apprentice College Beachley Point. Chepstow.

Pity that trash had names of those trained at Fort Benning. Only now the School of the Americas has had a name change but the same old story continues.

guess all the people who were for invading are feeling pretty dumb...they'll rationalize their war-hawking somehow.

Like I said before, this was a desperate act by Iran and now they are just getting out of the best way they can. (I doubt they were planning to release the all along as a stunt, it just seems too dangerous for them and could easily backfire. and if they did it as a stunt they would have done so sooner, i feel.)

I remember about a week ago DuH2, in his wisdom, said that Britain should give 48 hours notice and then declare war and invade. I wonder how that would have gone over. I certainly doubt Iran would hand them over then, if for no other reason that to avoid looking weak.
