Iran Claims to Begin 'Industrial Scale' Uranium Enrichment

NATANZ, Iran — Iran announced a dramatic expansion of uranium enrichment on Monday, saying it has begun operating 3,000 centrifuges — nearly 10 times the previously known number — in defiance of U.N. demands it halt the program or face increased sanctions.

U.S. experts say 3,000 centrifuges are in theory enough to produce a nuclear weapon, perhaps as soon as within a year. But they doubted Iran really had so many up and running, a difficult technical feat given the country's spotty success with a much smaller number.

Bomb their nuclear sites asap.

Default great....

I wonder if Europe even cares.

Hey maybe we should start openly supporting some Israeli Nuclear development and arming. Or another enemy of Iran in the region.

I think that this progress Iran has made is a downfall from the removing of Saddam.

You'd think that they would since they're already in range of Iranian medium range ballistic missiles. All it takes now is a nuclear tipped warhead and all of Europe is at risk of nuclear attack with a warning of about 15-20 minutes.

But, they don't seem terribly concerned. Go figure.

Seriously, if you were president of Iran, wouldn't you?

Iran has:

1) Openly called for the complete destruction of Israel.
a) The world (most importantly, the U.N.) turned a blind eye.

2) Openly called for the destruction of the United States.
a) The world (most importantly, the U.N.) turned a blind eye.

3) Openly announced it wanted to become a nuclear power.
a) The world didn't even slap them on the wrists.

4) Took a bunch of sailors hostage, and broke every Geneva Convention law, parading them around and torturing them (hey..if you bleeding heart Commucrats call "playing Chili Peppers music "torture," then what these soldiers got is "torture.").
a) Britain darn near groveled at their Iranian feet, for their release, and the U.N.'s view of the whole situation was pretty much "that's nice."

Basically, Iran can do anything it wants. The world won't interfere. If a country like Britain or the United States threatens to do anything, then the world will denounce it.

Default ZOMG!

Hitler did the same thing. Europe stood still. Will we let such mistakes repeat themselves? I should hope not. The only question is, are we also willing to repeat our own mistakes in Iraq?

Except for Britain----all of Europe stays uninvolved. Which is strange---considering Iran with a nuke should be even more of a concern to them than us.

Why? Even if they have them, they're not going to use them. Europe lived with nuclear powers on its doorstep for decades and learned to deal with it. There are enough nuclear armed nations in the EU and the NATO alliance to destroy all of Iran should the Iranians launch a nuke. Why should Europe be scared if MAD is proven to work?

And don't give me the "but the Iranian Prez is Kr@zy!!!" line. He's not the supreme leader of his country and couldn't launch without the approval of the clerics. They have Iran best interests at heart and always have.

How incredibly naive.

You're talking about a country that's actively involved in international terrorism as we speak. Russia and the eastern bloc was aggressive, but not insane. They understood nuclear war.

The clerics you speak of are religious fanatics that openly hate the West and are doing everything they can to bring an end to the nation of Israel... as their opening salvo. They are of the same ideology that advocates suicide bombing. How stable is that? With a nuclear weapon, they have the ability to finally make good what they've been promising the West for decades.

You're choosing to be in denial. The stakes are too high for you to be wrong.

Please remind me what Bush had done to stop Iran. Last time I checked Bush has been President for 6 years, with a Republican Congress for most of that time. It will be interesting to see how you blame the Democrats if and when Iran does have Nuclear bombs that they have been working on for all of Bush's time in office.

Are you also claiming that your idol Bush is not acting because he doesn't want to be denounced by countries you dont' even respect? That sounds like a coward to me.

Its the I can't do anything because France will call me a meanie Defense.

Wow how far can Conservatives fall.

Ixtellor

P.S. All conservatives shut your mouths or I will denounce you.

I choose realistic.

The Iranian clerics are fanatics yes. Yes they don't like Israel and would much prefer that it be destroyed...but not to destroy the land. They want that land to be Muslim. It's kind of hard to do that when the half-life of the radiation won't come for a few thousand years.

Also, those men are power hungry national leaders. They understand politics, diplomacy, and the game of international relations just as well as they understand Islam. To them, intelectually, supporting suicide bombers is no different than supporting human wave attacks. It has a great psychological effect and causes alot of damage, but it doesn't put any extra threat on them. If they launch a nuke or give one to terrorists to use, all their power will be gone and their nation and its great "legacy" (which is what the Iranians are all about: the Legacy of the Persian People") will be wiped out by the international response.

To world leaders who don't have to worry about accountability or political correctness, terrorism is just another tool.
