Author Sami Michael, president of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, said upon the release of the organization's annual report that racism was so rife it was damaging civil liberty in Israel.

"Israeli society is reaching new heights of racism that damages freedom of
expression and privacy," Michael said. The publication coincides with Human Rights Week, which begins Sunday.

The report's key points include a 26-percent rise in the number of racist incidents against Arabs and twice as many Jews reporting a feeling of hate toward Arabs.

"We are a society under supervision under a democratic regime whose institutions are being undermined and which confers a different status to residents in the center of the country and in the periphery," Michael said.

According to the June 2007 Democracy Index of the Israel Democracy Institute, for example, only half the public believes that Jews and Arabs must have full equal rights.

Among Jewish respondents, 55 percent support the idea that the state should encourage Arab emigration from Israel and 78 percent oppose the inclusion of Arab political parties in the government. According to a Haifa University study, 74 percent of Jewish youths in Israel think that Arabs are "unclean."

The ACRI says that bills introduced in the Knesset contribute to delegitimize the country's Arab citizens, such as ones that would link the right to vote and receive state allowances to military or national service.

They also include bills that require ministers and MKs to swear allegiance to a Jewish state and those that set aside 13 percent of all state lands owned by the Jewish National Fund for Jews only.

"Arab citizens are frequently subject to ridicule at the airports," the report states.

It says that Arab citizens "are subject to 'racial profiling' that classifies them as a security threat. The government also threatens the freedom of expression of Arab journalists by brandishing the whip of economic boycott and ending the publication of government announcements in newspapers that criticize its policy."

Hadash Chairman MK Mohammad Barakeh said that the report "did not take us by surprise and neither should anyone be surprised by it. Its results are the natural consequence of a racist campaign led by political and military leaders, as well as the result of the anti-Arab racist policies implemented by consecutive governments.

Blame Israel when Iran continues to murder homosexuals, crush opposition to their government, and assassinate Christian leaders. Not discriminatory at all, of course I must be an Israelophile because I disagree with you right? Even though the Arab and Palestinian governments say that Jewish people should have no political existence and should be eliminated because they are "dangerous", Israel can't suspect them of anything wrong? I honestly don't blame Israel for being suspicious of certain Arabic people entering their country.

Just what group of people are a security threat to Palestinians if not the Israelis?

Apart from that there are many Israeli organisations that are not harmful to Palestinians and the same applies to Palestinians as a threat to Israelis so to classify all Palestinians by racial profiling as a security threat is racist.

On an individual basis is one thing but by racist methods, tut tut. Just shows how racist Israelophiles are.

You fail at delivering a rebuttal; simply because you tackled a different subject. You criticized Israel’s neighbors, instead of discussing Israel's actions and behavior towards Palestinians.

No, I'm not talking about its racial profiling; I'm gearing towards their never ending expansion of Israeli settlement at the cost of Palestinian Land. The Palestinians have become imprisoned (literally) by settlements and "The Wall". Israel has turned the Palestinian territories into Ghettos that breed terrorist and lunatics.

Simply put, Israel doesn't want the Arabs.

Contrary to popular belief, this isn't a Black and White Situation. Israel is not the "better side", and the Arabs are not "evil".

Unfortunately, I can't think of any solutions to the current conflict, and I don't think anyone else can. So just keep on living, and hope for a miracle some time in the future, and maybe you’ll live to see Peace in the Middle East.

There(Isreal) actions have evrey bit to do with their neighbors actions. Isreal has been thrust into War 6 times since their recreation in 1948. They(Isreal and Palestine) are in an ongoing war to survive. The Palestinian way is alot more agressive. They have settled down though and are now talking serious peace with each other.

Hezbollah is the ball breaker. They attack Isreal constantly and brings Isreals (*)(*)(*)(*) to a broil. So hezbollah can cry wolf at evrey one else to get aid and say they were attacked first. Most of those guns Hezbollah gets comes from the U.N. Until hezbollah is taken down there will not be any peace in the Middle east.

Your proposal for peace is ludicrous , you can't simply ask just one side to "put down their weapons". Jeez, haven't you ever watched a Shoot 'em up before, no one ever wants to give up first.

You have to have a solution that would appease to both sides.

Nonsense. It is not a "shoot 'em up" or else Israel would have made mincemeat of the Palestinians in short order. If Israel wanted to simply 'win' the confrontation and get it over with, she could have done it long ago.

In fact, Israel has largely abided by the Oslo agreements (unlike the Palestinians), and has made numerous overtures for peace. In fact the Wall is an example of Israel's willingness to try to use peaceful means to solve this problem. It is a problem caused by one side's intransigence, and that side is not Israel.

It is clear you did not watch the video. The video that halla put up shows the extent of the problem and why the fault does not lie with Israel!
