At any rate, the sh*t happened 50+ years ago, the fact that Israel haters have to go so far back to dig up dirt on Israel is quite telling. That today Americans are killed by Islamists all over the world (including Hamas and other palestinian terror groups) does not stop these Israel-hating Islamofascist hypocrites from supporting every enemy of the US. Well the fact is that released NSA audio recordings of the incident prove that Israel was still under the impression that it was an Egyptian ship even after the attack when they were requesting Arabic translators when launching the bordering mission to capture survivors.

So it was okay for Israel to attack and ask questions later? I'm not blaming Israel completely it may have honestly been a mistake but it was a terrible mistake that should not have just been so easily forgotten.

Reports from crew say they waved at the Israel's jets, You can tell me with a straight face seeing hundreds of Americans on a ship would not tip you off it was a American ship?

Also digging a little further I find that the USS Liberty was not were it was suppose to be a mistake on the US. It seems that this could have easly been a extremely botched attack mission ran by imbecile but I believe America should have had General Yitzhak Rabin's job.

I also want to state again I'm neither Pro Israel or Iran I believe that its non of America's business.

The USS Liberty at the time was arguably THE most identifiable and unique ship of its time, there was no possible way it could be mistaken for anything else. It was armed with nothing more than a .50 cal machine gun, yet Israel say they attacked because they got reports it was conducting "bombardments"

The ship was inspected and surveyed many times before the attack commenced, with the US flag clearly flying on the mast. After the attack, a larger sized US flag was also raised and that didn't stop the attack. NSA Intercepts of Israeli pilots show they reported back to HQ that "It was clearly an American ship, an ally"

WHY DID ISRAEL attack the ship with UNMARKED AIRCRAFT? surely, if they mistook the ship to be Egyptian, and they were at war with Egypt at the time, why on earth did they see the need to make use of UNMARKED aircraft, and not clearly defined Israeli aircraft? this single fact proves they knew it was an American ship.

I'm not even American myself, yet those who call themselves Americans can deny this fact because of their undying support for Israeli. 34 men died, 171 injured, most grievously. And you can sit there on your laptops and say it was "just a mistake" when there's clear and insurmountable evidence to the contrary. Wow, I'm simply and deeply shocked.

We should have leveled israel to the ground in June of 1967, but for some reason LBJ didn't have the balls to do it.

Why did they strafe the life boats, that's a direct violation of international war law. Clearly they didn't want any survivors.

A communication to the Israeli Ambassador on June 10, by Secretary Rusk stated, among other things: “At the time of the attack, the USS Liberty was flying the American flag and its identification was clearly indicated in large white letters and numerals on its hull. … Experience demonstrates that both the flag and the identification number of the vessel were readily visible from the air…. Accordingly, there is every reason to believe that the USS Liberty was identified, or at least her nationality determined, by Israeli aircraft approximately one hour before the attack. … The subsequent attack by the torpedo boats, substantially after the vessel was or should have been identified by Israeli military forces, manifests the same reckless disregard for human life.”

The journalist who transcribed the tapes for that article, Arieh O'Sullivan, later confirmed that "the Israeli Air Force tapes he listened to contained blank spaces."

On October 2, 2007, The Chicago Tribune published a special report[6] into the attack, containing numerous previously unreported quotes from former military personnel with first-hand knowledge of the incident. Many of these quotes directly contradict the U.S. National Security Agency's position that it never intercepted the communications of the attacking Israeli pilots, claiming that not only did transcripts of those communications exist, but also that it showed the Israelis knew they were attacking an American naval vessel.

The NSA History Report (page 41) states: "... every official interview of numerous Liberty crewmen gave consistent evidence that indeed the Liberty was flying an American flag—and, further, the weather conditions were ideal to ensure its easy observance and identification."

Please Borat, no point posting investigations done way back in 1967-80s. When everyone from the US administration was hell bent on covering up what happened. Of course, the investigations wouldn't yield any results. Isn't it funny that from 2003 on-wards, reports clearly begin to indicate Israel had prior knowledge it was a US ship and there is a cover up?
