Default Bush optimistic of Mid-East peace

US President George W Bush has said he is still optimistic there will be a Middle East peace deal before he leaves office, despite stalled negotiations.
Mr Bush said there was "plenty of time to get a deal done" in the remaining 10 months of his presidency.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas broke off contacts with Israel at the weekend after its recent military offensive in Gaza killed more than 120 Palestinians.

Default I wonder what he's thinking.

I wonder what he's (allegedly) thinking. Where does he think peace is going to come out of this?

He can say whatever he wants at this point, everyone is too busy watching Obama vs Hillary. I wish we would just tell Israel that if they dont stop messing around with other countries, we'll cut all aid to them. That might speed the process up a little bit.

Default "Deal done?"

What does Bush mean when he says "get a deal done?"

I mean, so far, how does he seem to like to get his deals done? I don't think anybody would describe either his methods or his results as peaceful.

What bizarre recipe does he think he's cooking from, and just how many of us does he plan to throw into the stew pot?

The Mideast peace talks on the creation of a Palestinian state by the end of the year as framed by the Annapolis Conference have been going well for the most part. There is then real possibility that Palestine will become an independent state by the end of his term.

.

I think some of the responses here highlight the foolish blindness and empty Bush hate of some of you.

IOW for those going huh?..pay attention to whats going on

So let Hamas speak for itself. Here is the "peace partner" in his own words..

This Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), clarifies its picture, reveals its identity, outlines its stand, explains its aims, speaks about its hopes, and calls for its support, adoption and joining its ranks. Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious. It needs all sincere efforts. It is a step that inevitably should be followed by other steps. The Movement is but one squadron that should be supported by more and more squadrons from this vast Arab and Islamic world, until the enemy is vanquished and Allah's victory is realised.

Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement. Abusing any part of Palestine is abuse directed against part of religion. Nationalism of the Islamic Resistance Movement is part of its religion. Its members have been fed on that. For the sake of hoisting the banner of Allah over their homeland they fight. "Allah will be prominent, but most people do not know."

....the Islamic Resistance Movement does not consider these conferences capable of realising the demands, restoring the rights or doing justice to the oppressed. These conferences are only ways of setting the infidels in the land of the Moslems as arbitraters. When did the infidels do justice to the believers?

There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.

Arab and Islamic Peoples should augment by further steps on their part; Islamic groupings all over the Arab world should also do the same, since all of these are the best-equipped for the future role in the fight with the warmongering Jews.

What part of "NO" doesn't George W Bush understand?

"The courageous over the infidels, make war for Allah and are not afraid... This is the depiction of the army of Allah that will come at Allah's decree, from here or from there, to liberate these lands from the defilement of the Jews, for Allah was angry with them in his book and called them once 'monkeys,' once 'swine,' and once 'donkeys.'"
