Haven't seen a thread on this yet, so just thought I'd get one started....
Have y'all been following this story? Apparently, some guy with "former" (yuk yuk) ties to Soviet intelligence, tried to sell a small "sample" of high-grade uranium to "someone".... Hmm..... I can tell you my initial reactions: a) I'm very glad to hear that our intelligence folks are hip to this stuff, this is definitely a success for them, although how much it really means in the global scope of this thing, remains to be seen..... b) this guy apparently was in bed with some kind of organized crime, althouth they're not telling us the full story yet..... and c) I have no doubt that this guy will undergo the worst kind of, um.... "debreifing"..... ( Thoughts? Input? Hmmm...... :eyebrow: |

See what I mean? You guys aren't following unfolding events....
Here - just to (*)(*)(*)(*) you off, here's a link from your favorite news voice: http://www.voanews.com/english/2007-01-26-voa38.cfm Sorry, couldn't resist. Okay, so the story is, that about a week ago, a guy got nabbed in Soviet (or former Soviet) Georgia, for trying to sell weapons-grade uranium to a supposedly "mid-east" entity - which in reality, appears to have been a sting operation run by our CIA and a few other folks. I'm not entirely clear on the full story, I have too many things going on just now to follow the full details, but I'm entirely sure that if you Google around a little (maybe, use some of the keywords in the link I just posted) - you'll get a bigger picture. This is definitely newsworthy - I, for one, would like to hear more details about this. But obviously, for obvious reasons, they're not going to give them to us just now. (And maybe, we won't hear about it "ever"). That's okay though. As long as they do "their" job(s), successfully, that's all I care about. I have to mozy into the studio here for a few hours. I'll definitely check back into this thing when I get back though. This is much better than anything you can read in the Enquirer..... |

..are we, oh flatulant one?
Touch of the school ma'arm here. (I love it when the mods let themselves down with displays of pre-emptive tetchiness)...

I certainly hope he's undergoing some serious interrogation!! This is serious stuff.
Here's a better link on the story: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe...eut/index.html GREAT WORK, CIA

I was kinda expecting, though, some clueless lib-junky to jump in here with some verbiage about how rotten this whole thing smells.... But, it hasn't happened yet. And, I don't think it'll happen on this one. I think (that is, it seems to me), we can all agree with JP on this one. GREAT WORK, CIA. |

Yes. And it also points out the extreme seriousness of the job President Bush is doing in this "war on terrorism." The war that many Dem leaders try to downplay and act as if it's all in George W. Bush's head!

I usually move the thread without any fanfare and sort out the complaints later. This time, since it's by a user who's been here a while and should know better, I thought maybe giving him a second chance to fix the error would be better. So, from your response I take it you'd rather it be the other way 'round?

Senax, I posted this "here" because the story is still unfolding.....
It's still developing, even as we speak. Apparently the Georgian guy (whose name I don't remember just now), is in a "detention facility" - read: he's being raked over the coals with chemically assisted questioning and all that. It's been a week since the actual arrest was made, but just now, it seems, the "debriefing" is taking place..... Yikes. Well, I'll tell you, that's why I stay entirely away from stuff like that. I have my own demons, but they don't include high-grade uranium. I'm sitting here in the studio, waiting for the electronics to come back on-line, and for some reason my wireless isn't working, so i'm vectoring in through the home machine, trying to touch bases with y'all. This method is actually faster than the wireless, i can type more or less in real-time, whereas the wireless slows me down. Oh well, that's off-topic. SORRY. Anyway, so please post here, if you hear any more information on this story. JP - I hear what you're saying, but your statement is a little too broad for me to respond to here - (otherwise, Senax is going to get mad at me and close the thread). So, we'll just debate that somewhere else. I'll say this much, here: This CIA "sting" operation (or whatever it was), is something much more specific than a sweeping global concept like the "war on terror". Okay, that's enough. Thanks Senax, for keeping this thread open. I'm still kinda hoping someone will have more info on this Georgian-nuclear thing, so I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt on this thread. |
