It's been stated that the use of a dirty bomb against a U.S. is a virtual certainty.

My understanding of such a device is that at ground zero will be a non nuclear explosion in which radioactive materials will be dispersed into the atmosphere immediate to the explosion and be carried by prevailing winds for some distance.

The explosion is the threat at ground zero of course along with a period oh maximum alpha radiation and what limited Gama radiation may take place.

Unlike the nuclear explosion there is little gamma radiation since the mass of the radioactive material is pulverized and dispersed rapidly.

The dust is harmfully if inhaled or left to remain on clothing because it is radiating alpha particles.

The pulverized material will be dispersed by the wind and further threat will dissipate.

Cover your nose with some kind of filter ...shirt or whatever.

Run from the area dusting off and get to dust free environment .

ASAP wash off.

Now that's my understanding of the threat that a dirty bomb would impose.

And to understand that it is filled more with fear than teeth.

This is what I'd do....how wrong am I ?
