Mainly because i have a fine interest in military(no,not because i'm israeli,although that had it's part of it) ,i want to bring to this forum a little inlightment about the militaries and weapons today. in a time when military is number one important, i would like to bring the planes,tanks,guns in the modern militaries today. of course i won't bring statistics,but i will bring the history behind it,it's achivements,and main qualities. coming soon!(of course if anyone object's it,i will hear you out and consider not sharing it with you....now i suppose i will do it on OFF-TOPIC,but if another place is more apropriate,please tell me.of course if i see people object it,i will not share with you,but my main idea is to let you have a basic knowledge about the weapons that made countries win and lose wars in the wars since 1950. of course it will take time,and since i'm already pre-occupied for other stuff,it might take a while to gather information...basicly i won't give on all planes,tanks,guns and stuuf around today,but the main in the armies,and the ones considered the best.
again,if anyone object's it,or all of you,i will of course abort it.

Hmm.. gonna have to ask a pro about this. Whatcha think, Raytri? Merkava mk4 the bestest tank in the world?

I'm thinking not.. Wonderful survivability, and putting the engine out front, and having room for a few ride along squishies are all great ideas.

But it's kinda slow imo, although speed is not much of a factor for the IDF since the territory they have to cover is tiny. Also the tank's width caused problems when the mk3 was deployed in Lebanon.. it got stuck when manuevering through builtup urban terrain.


Anyhooo.. anyone know if the Merkavas and Abrams ever done an opfor battle exercise against each other? It'd also be interesting to see how IDForces vs USArmy crews compare.

i don't think merkavas and Abrams ever did OPFOR battles against each other- NTC was originally meant to specialize against soviet tanks, and they have quite a bit of T-series tanks in stock. Don't know why they would train merkavas vs abrams, since they're not going to fight any country with merkavas- unless the only point of the exercise was to see which tank was better.

I'll tell you this though, just for you to get a sense of ISrael's Armed forces quality overall, when the IDF air force trained with the americans in dogfights, israel came out with a shoot-down ratio of more than 2:1 ! the IDF is definitely on the top 3 of the most professional armed force in the world. They also have the best kill ratio in air-air dogfights in history.

well, i'm a military/political hobbyst, and i am sure when i say that the Merkava is as good as the Abrams, or surpass it in some ways. The Merkava is built for ruggedness because of the close-combat demands oif the IDF, and at the same time it also incorporates all the latest modern tracking, cross-country capabilities, and NBC / laser systems that is available to a world power. It is an extremely well battle tested piece of work, and it has been improved upon repeatedly for the past few years.

Oh my signature.....Well that was mainly patriotism......It is considered the best protected tank in the world(with the most chances of the crew to survive),but because there was no actual battle between Abrams and Merkava,there's no comparison on who's best. But I do belive that the best Western tank in the world(Israel not western) is the Leopard,not Abrams.
