Default Important Retraction About the Catholic Church

In one of my threads about my psychological problems, I mistakenly claimed, based on a misinterpretation of statements made by my mother, that the Roman Catholic Church requires married couples to have relations even if doing so would be psychologically harmful to one or both of them. While I believed this at the time, tonight I brought up the issue with my parents and how cruel this seemed, and my mother, based on her knowledge of Catholic doctrine, and my father, based on looking up official Catholic doctrine on the Internet, made clear to me in unambiguous terms that the Roman Catholic Church does not support or condone any such doctrine. I was addressing Doctiloquus and stekim, among others, in the thread in question, and I feel responsible for accidentally spreading false and damaging information about the Roman Catholic Church. I am sorry for my error. Thank you very much.

They have plenty of things to still be sorry for. So it's OK.

Your mother was not too far off. Catholics may be granted an annulment if sexual intercourse is not a part of the relationship.
Divorce, on the other hand, is never permitted.

But there are other grounds for granting of annulment in the RC - people tend to mirror the RC's own sexual fixations, and project same back onto them, even when its inappropriate or wrong.

Well, I suppose there is a kind of poetic justice in all that...
