Maybe their doors are made of thick steel? Even then, I don't see how locking it, as opposed to just closing it, would matter.

Bear could turn the nob but didn't know how to pick the lock!

I guess if the bear was smart enough to rip out the moose's heart, knowing that that's what kept it alive... it must know to turn a doorknob because that's what opens the door.
