Default but when all is said and done

We just want to win the World Series, right? Even if we get there in a sneaky way.

Default Amen to that!!

Though it will be difficult for me right now to root for an Indians/Giants series as I have a couple of good friends who are Giants fans...

Speaking of a Giants/Indians series - for some reason, the city is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the last time we met....why would we want to do that?? It's not like it was the last time we were in the Series or anything and there can't be that many great highlights from us..... oh well. Just thought it odd.

Just seems like a sneeky way to get in - I'd rather go in with a command of first place (just an ego thing, I know

Of course, the regular season record is erased as soon as the playoffs begin but still..... I'd just feel better......
Apologies for butting into the lovely conversation you two are having ... I just wanted to point out that sometimes a wildcard entry into the playoffs isn't necessarily so "sneaky". Our Cubs were picked by many to win their division this year, but they were plagued by injuries for the entire first two-thirds of the season. Consequently they fell to 10-11 games behind 1st place St. Louis. So now their only real hope is the WC, and I think it would be sort of a shame if it didn't happen. But that's just coming from me, a huge (and impatient) Cub fan!

Default Always one of those

Seems like there's always a team or two that should get in and just barely doesn't make it. I have nothing against the wild card - but we're about as close to that as we are to first place so this year especially, it's just an ego thing

Cubs fans may be even more patient than Indians fans!!! You guys are awesome!

Default no need to apologize

RW, always good to have more people join the conversation. Of course, with Dusty there in Chicago, we Giants funs have an interest in the Cubs. The Giants should never have got rid of Dusty, but it wasn't up to us, and we like Alou.

Default But

He was ours first.

The three Alou brothers, Matty, Felipe and Jesus, played for the Giants in the 60s. In fact, they all played the outfield one game, the only time three brothers have done that.

Default Nine Times....

After nine straight losses, a season high, my beloved Indians finally won again last night. And against the Yankees and El Duque to boot. My favorite player, Kenny Lofton, got his 2,00th hit (we all cheered and stood for him) but we won anyway.

All thanks to a squirrel. If any of you have seen Sportscenter this morning, that squirrel was a riot. He was definitely on our side too because when we were in the outfield, he laid low. When the Yankees were, he ran all over the place as if trying to distract them.

A great, great night

End of rant.
(Sorry I missed your post when it was fresh)

Farnsworth has been compared to Antonio Alfonseca recently. Why is it the Cubs ALWAYS have problems with either their middle relief or closers... or both? It does no good to have dream starters like Prior, Woods, Clemente, Zambrano, and Maddox if NOBODY CAN CLOSE THE DEAL.

Oye!!!....

Default If the Giants....

...get to the playoffs, their good for one win. J. Schmidt will do his thing. But they have 4 number five starters rounding out that starting rotation, and it's hard to watch sometimes. In late June, that staff got on a roll for a couple of weeks and they looked like a bunch of Cy Young winners. But they are back on earth now and I think the Cubs will take the wildcard. I'd love to see another Cubbie choke job in the playoffs. You know the kind...they get just close enough to make me think they have it in them to win...then the God of Cubbies strike them with some fan interfering or something. Game over. I love baseball!

Go Giants
Go Angels
