Default Let's talk summer fruit!

After eating apples and oranges all year, I look forward to May and the advent of summer fruit, especially peaches and plums. I stock up on
both and usually have it all eaten within a week. It's all downhill after that.
I go back to the same store, to the same pile, and yuck, tasteless, soggy
fruit. Now, I don't know if this bothers any of you, it certainly doesn't bother anyone in my family, as I walk around disappointed and mumbling to myself that no one understands fruit. Can anyone tell me why it has to be this way? Are there any fruit growers out there? Are they stored in large freezers which deplete all flavor and reduce the texture to a soggy, dripless
ball which even my cockateil refuses to eat. Now, I know this isn't one of the most pressing problems of the day, but I would be interested to know if anyone shares my concern or possibly offer a solution.

Default Where do you live?

I live in Florida and we get pretty good fruit here from local growers, though what's in season varies. May/June is the time to get wonderful fresh blueberries (and I buy them up in bulk and freeze them). What's available varies from place to place.

Default fruit

In Calif, we get some really good fruit during the summer and late spring.

Curious, how much does a pint of blueberries cost in your area?
How about a quart ofstrawberries?

The best price for us blueberries $2.50 High price at $5
Strawberries $2.50 high price at $4.50

But I did get strawbwerries once for $1 quart.

Other favorites are peaches and nectarines, plums, apricots.

The biggest problem with fruit is it is picked so early. It needs to stay on the vine/tree to be best, but with transport and all, it is picked too early for the best flavor.

Default I think blueberries are about $ 2 a pint right now...

And strawberries are about $2 a quart.

I know this only because I bought some of each at lunch today.

But, most recently, I think I paid $10 for a 5 lb. bag of blueberries at the farmer's market.
