Yes breastfeeding is covered - but mostly it's what to expect during labour. You know, the three stages, things that can go wrong, the types of interventions you can have, caesarian sections (both elective and emergency), features of the newborn, how long it generally takes - the whole thing.

That's the first two lessons. Then you start with breastfeeding (which is what we're up to now) and then the last two lessons are on after the baby's born, taking it home, some common problems, sleep, your relationship etc.

It's actually very, very informative and really helps you feel much more prepared for the whole birthing experience. I think things have changed a lot for pregnant women these days! Mum told me she had one scan the whole time and then you gave birth and that was it. Things are really different now, aren't they?
Sounds like prenatal classes to me. No, Chesby, things are not really different.

Some things never change. Oh, I know what you're talking about. Merely knowing what's going on and what to expect makes it extremely better. You are gonna breastfeed, aren't you? You better be. Don't make me come down there.

So what you are pretty much telling us is he went to a class, and has read a book past all the stuff that would not help him help you?

Please come back and tell us when he continues to read the book after they start talking about how he can help you.

Make sure to tell him that the next parts may help him help you. Average guy is not going to know the difference unless you tell him.

Yes I am - absolutely. Initially I was a bit nervous about it. I had a personal space issue going on. But that changes I think - the further along you get in your pregnancy I think you get to a point where you actually can't imagine doing it any other way.

She will have one bottle a day, in the morning, for the Chesboy's benefit. I think it would be nice for him to be able to participate. But it will still be breastmilk, I'll express a bottle for him each day.

And yes - `ante-' in medical terms means `pre-' or `before-'. We don't say prenatal in Australia - although for most people I'm sure it would be less confusing!!

Kangaroo care helps out a lot for both if you are not breastfeeding. It will help both of you bond with the child.

It's not just about helping the woman. This is his child too - you would think he would show an interest in the process of it being born.

Not only that, don't you think it's just rude? The midwife taking the class was really quite shocked. I mean, if you're not interested, don't come. But don't be so rude that you sit there and blatantly read a book in front of a woman who is spending her time trying to teach you about the process in which your child is going to be born.

And all the other guys in the class can work it out - I'm sure they're your everyday average guy. They were all so angry about it - you could tell by the way they were looking at him. There's only 12 to a class.

Honestly, from everything you've written here I cannot imagine you doing such a thing, and being so disrespectful not only to your wife, but to the person running the class.

How do you know it's his first kid? Maybe he's been there before.

maybe you will cut him a bit of slack since (1) he attended with you; (2) it was clearly your idea alone; and (3) he will not be able to breast feed ... those instructions will not change that

the midwife did not alter the way she presented because of his behavior, so he did not negatively inflict himself; i think that causes him not to have been "rude". indifferent, certainly ... rude, no

take this to the bank. they were miffed because he showed the other 5 guys who the big dawg in the room was ... it wasn't them because they were doing what the wife unit expected. they were especially miffed at themselves for not having the gonads to do what Gary did

i wish all 3 of you the best, but lighten up. you are making much too much of this
