Ray Davies of the Kinks should be Knighted.
It bothers me that Raymond Douglas Davies has not been knighted heretofore.
Why is it that Her Majesty can appoint such a title upon Mick Jagger, rapscallion that he always was and sought to be, and not upon one who always professed an intrinsic love affair with England? What more formidable spokesman could produce the stuff of the following: Some people say that life's a game, well, if this is so, I'd like to know the rules of which this game of life is played... I know of no game more fitting than the age-old game of Cricket. It has honour, it has character, and is British. Now, God laid down the rules of life when he wrote those Ten Commandments and to Cricket those ten same rules shall apply. So show compassion, and self-righteousness, and be honest above all... And come to God's call, with bat and ball. Good God, he can't attain knighthood? It is a sin. It's also a fun departure of a song to play in front of people, and they love it.

Not being British, I've never understood the significance of membership in the Order of the British Empire. But, if it makes them happy, what do I care?
 There are five classes of the OBE - Only people appointed to the top two levels - Knights (or Dames) of the Grand Cross, and Knight (or Dame) Commander get to use the title "Sir" or "Dame" before their names - Sir Paul (McCartney), Dame Judith (Dench), Sir Roger (Moore), etc... Membership is limited to only 100 Knights (Dames) Grand Cross, and 845 Knight (Dame) Commanders. Sadly, Ray Davies is stuck at level three - Commander. It's like being a Captain and awaiting a promotion to Admiral - there are only so many openings at the top, and you've got to wait until someone is off the list for you to move up. And, there are a lot of people in the same fix as Ray Davies - Eric Clapton, Petula Clark, Roger Daltry, Rod Stewart, Stephen Hawking, David Gilmour, Christopher Lee, Angela Lansbury, and Billy Connolly.
