you need a substantial amount of time to get into each type of sleep deepness.

most people know about the rem sleep. Which takes about 90 minutes to get into. If you get into rem within 15 to 25 minutes you could have narcolepsy.

however what many people don't know is that sleep is also nescary to cool te brain down, Literaly. Quite simple, if you do not get enough deep sleep, your brain will fry.

on the subject of polyphasic sleep (your suggested 30 minutes per 3 hours sleep) research has been conducted conlclusion:

Quote:
"Under extreme circumstances where sleep cannot be achieved continuously, research on napping shows that 10- to 20-minute naps at regular intervals during the day can help relieve some of the sleep deprivation and thus maintain minimum levels of performance for several days. However, researchers caution that levels of performance achieved using ultrashort sleep (short naps) to temporarily replace normal sleep, are always well below that achieved when fully rested."

I might start tonight, but it's apparently an itchbay to get used to.

Anybody here do this?
I know someone that does that her eyes always look ready to close.

I'm already living that dream. I have a 3 month old daughter.

Can you imagine the progress we (nation, planet, whatever) would have if we never had to sleep?

I don't think it would be very healthy, myself.

I've always liked to sleep. However I never realized how necessary it was until I became a parent. Continuous sleepless nights are back-breakers for me, and turn my wife into a complete loon.

Sleep. It's not just a good idea.

I'm by far no expert, but isn't REM sleep important to ones health? And doesn't it take a few minutes for the body to enter REM sleep? I may be totally wrong on that.

I don't know how long it takes. I can get to sleep within five minutes some nights, then I wake up a few minutes later because I've had a bad dream...those dreams that are in between awake and asleep.

as i said before, there is more to sleep than REM. But yes, REM is a nescecitty. And it should occur after 90 minutes, or someone has developped narcolepsy, which is a psychological disorder.
