Default An exercise in non-debating

I want to see if anyone can define in their own words (no copying from a dictionary) different political terms. My hope is that without any debates on validity, or negative replies, we can try to see the viewpoints of others. I would hope that nobody is quoted unless it is to congratulate them on a well thought out response, or to expand positively with your own interpretation. Not to argue or disagree.

The first word I want you to define is Patriot, I'll even start with my own definition.

To me, the definition of a patriot is one that puts the interests of their nation and it's people ahead of their own.

Now let's see how far we can get before the fighting starts.

A patriot is one who is willing to sacrifice personally for the betterment of his/her country.

A patriot, to me, is someone who does what is right for their country, regardless of what is popular and what is ridiculed.

I believe a lot of good can be done if we had a leader that did for the country and not for his popularity.

I should add, that if anyone sees a debate forming they should feel free to change the word that needs defining. (Try not to repeat previous words) Hopefully that will keep the arguments to a minimum.

A patriot is best described as a zealous nationalist. Patriotism can be good or bad. The Founding Fathers of the US were patriots, but so were the Nazis.

A true patriot is a revolutionary that will fight to keep her / his country on the right track. Most patriots today i see as follower nationalists.

I'm not a big football fan, American or otherwise, but I was wondering if that would come up.
