Default American Idol

First of all, I have to say that I hate this show. In fact, I'm getting very sick of all so-called "reality" t.v. lately but I guess this is what happens when everyone gets their 15 minutes.

Still, I can't help watching the auditions, especially this year as they came to Cleveland (no, I did not go try out. I know enough to know that I cannot sing and do not wish to humiliate myself in front of Simon and on national television).

This year offered some real winners - anyone else see the Malfetta twins...can't believe the one actually came back but I'm glad he made it through. I thought he only had an okay voice but wow, was he pretty. I'm sure I'm just biased because he was clearly Italian, but hey, Paula saw it too - I'm convinced that's the real reason she voted him in.

This year the buzz word seems to be "my friends/family all say I can sing." Everyone who has said that so far has been horrible - these people have terrible friends who need to level with them...

For the record, and as proof that this really is not my type of music, I really kind of liked the goth-looking guy (I think he was in New Orleans) - definitely different and there is certainly a market out there for him. In fact, I'm probably part of it

Also had to love the guy who left his rock band to be on.....too funny.

Any other thoughts?

I saw about 15 minutes of it the other night... the choir singer that ripped off her clothes and wig was funny

But then the judges started yelling at each other so I switched channel. Ended up watching the PBS show about the Medici family. That was funny too ... especially that bit about Michelangelo's religious frescos at the Sistine Chapel being censored. The vatican hired another painter to cover up the private parts, and that painter is now recorded in history as "Mr.Large Underpants"

edit: ohcripes I just went off topic again. sorries.

Default Forgiven

That's okay Ted -- you make me laugh

And thejudges fighting is one of the best parts!! That and when Randy tries to hide the fact that he's laughing at someone when he couldn't be more obvious.

But Tuesday, it's "Hello Cleveland!" and the world can see just how little living in the Home of Rock and Roll means for talent

Default American (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)

I watched the first episode of this season when it aired a few weeks ago. That show is a joke. Personally, I don't find talentless jacka$$es very entertaining.

And then there are the contestants.

Default Starting to agree

I found the contestants this week to be pretty below par. However, I think I was a little spoiled by a couple of concerts I saw this weekend featuring the amazing Elaine Caswell (sings the original It's All Coming Back to Me Now on an album called Original Sin by Pandora's Box and she apparently does lots of backup work and is the voice of the Mets jingle. Her talent is wasted on backup. I believe the world needs to hear more of her) and Rob Evan who has done mostly stage work but is also part of the Trans Siberian Orchestra (who I'm suddenly more interested in - I didn't know much about him before this weekend).

Nobody compared to those two...it was awesome and if anyone ever gets a chance to see/hear either, do it!

I hate American Idol! It is so horrible just like the majority of reality TV. All American Idol is about is churning out more one hit wonders. I'd like to know why Paula Abdul is a judge. What does she know about music, she had like one song.

She had a couple singles I think, but album-wise you're right - she was a one hit wonder. Randy Jackson is really the only one there with any musical credibility.

I think what the show is really about is lining Simon's pockets, since he owns the rights to anybody who wins (or places, like Clay Aiken). That's on top of his hefty Fox contract, of course.
