Default Tax Time

I am sitting here doing my taxes and I hate it. Has everyone done theirs or are people waiting longer than I did?

I think the worst part is the self-employment taxes. 15.3% to pay for SS and medicare and if something drastic isn't done, I won't even get the promised benefits when I retire? Oh man, someone direct me to a harbor with a ship that contains tea. LOL

Ridiculous.

Who else wants to rant about taxes? LOL

Default Gosh, look at the time!

You ain't got time to rant. Clock's a-tickin'.

My mom's a professional tax preparer, so even though I'm 37 I let her do them. 2006, though, may be the year I get weaned; she's retiring!

The double hit for self-employment would be highly irritating. Since I'm a wage slave, it's hidden, so it doesn't bother me as much.

I actually don't mind paying taxes; I think it's a civic responsibility, and I earn enough that what's left over is plenty to live on.

I agree, but only when the government doesn't waste the money we pay.

As an ideal, sure. Problem is, there's always going to be SOME waste, and every taxpayer will have a different idea of what's waste and what isn't.

As long as the waste ratio stays relatively low, I'm okay with it.

Absolutely right. I have never had a return returned for errors, but I have to believe that a large percentage of people who do their own returns must get friendly letters from the IRS about errors. I am sure the IRS is very understanding. LOL

Don't vote republican unless the candidate is also a conservative. Non-fiscally-conservative republican candidates are as bad as socialist democratic candidates.

Since the grand majority of the errors are in their favor, I doubt they have much interest in simplifying it.

My sister does my taxes. It's her job. She has incredible software. Even though mine are somewhat complicated, she just has to plug in the numbers and it does all the work. It even reminds her if she has an empty spot where she had a number last year. She doesn't give me the choice of procrastination. I have to give her my stuff as soon as I get it. She spends about 20-30 minutes on it. I used to do it myself, but I spent far more time than that on the phone with her asking her questions, so I gave up. She e-filed it and I got the refund several weeks ago. Every year she tells me it's my last refund, but every year I manage to withhold enough anyway.

Next year, I will have 3 kids in college and should have about $20K in tax credits, but our income is just above the threshhold. I'd like to meet the person with 3 kids in college who considers themselves "rich."

Default .

I e-filed via TurboTax about a month ago. Our tax payment was deducted from our checking account last week. It seems a little less painfull when I don't have to physically write out a check.
