Okay, I'm going to break my own rule here and pray forgiveness from the masses (well, you all anyway) and add The Great 28 by Chuck Berry to the list. Yes, it's a greatest hits compilation but my argument is that singles were more prevalent at that time than albums and how many people can *you* name who have 28 great songs in that short a time period???
Yep, I was a very sad a couple of weeks ago to read that Johnny "Johnny B. Goode" Johnson had died. Very bad day for music..... However, someone asked about newer albums as well - here are my contributions (and many thanks to whoever mentioned 10 by Pearl Jam amd Throwing Copper by Live too - good calls): Audioslave: Audioslave. Apparently, they prefer the term "super duper group" to merely super group. And I'm okay with that... Mr. Happy Go Lucky: John Mellencamp. I know this is a good album because it started me as a big fan of his and this generally isn't my type of music. I mean, really, he's so, so... heartland for pete sake. Yes I Am: Melissa Etheridge. Are you gonna argue with this woman? I didn't think so. Nothing says angst-ridden obsessive love than a little Etheridge. Others I can't believe I forgot earlier but now that I'm home looking at my actual CD collection have gratefully remembered... There Goes Rhymin' Simon: Paul Simon Tapestry: Carol King Very: The Pet Shop Boys. Yeah, I know. Trust me on this one. Chocolate City: Parliament At Last: Etta James. Again, are you gonna argue with this woman? Because I'm pretty sure she will mess you up if you try. Common People: Pulp. If you haven't heard of these guys, they're a great little English band. Think of them as David Bowie meets Depeche Mode. Only with more sex (their followup to this album was called This is Hardcore, if that tells you anything.) Permission to Land: The Darkness. Just in case I needed a little diversity here. A new one but there isn't a song on there I don't like and, well, Queen couldn't have done it better themselves...

I've always been more of a singles fan myself, but here's a smattering of albums that get constant replay in my house:
Classic through the '80s: Pink Floyd, The Wall (except for that third side) Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms and Love Over Gold (I love "Telegraph Road") Jethro Tull, Greatest Hits (the first one, not the second so much) Led Zeppelin IV (I have an embarassingly large collection of Styx and ELO records, but we shall not go into that here....) Up through mid-'90s Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I & II Nirvana, Nevermind and their MTV acoustic set Cracker, Kerosene Hat Offspring, Smash Pogues, If I Should Fall from Grace with God (though for my money, their best album title was "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash") Morphine, Yes Pearl Jam, 10 Soundgarden, Black Hole Sun Current Third Eye Blind, self-titled Santana, Supernatural Natalie Merchant, Tiger Lily

This is very hard for me. I finally decided to pretend that I'm stranded on a deserted island with a ton of batteries and only 5 CDs.
1. Bach - anything as long as it has Toccata and Fugue. 2. Glenn Miller - Greatest hits - I know someone said no greatest hits but I'm stranded on an island! 3. Kenny Loggins - Greatest hits - sorry, but I must. 4. Emerson Lake and Palmer - self-titled. 5. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti, I was gonna pick ZOSO aka IV, but I have that so memorized I figure I can "listen" to it anytime anyway - as much as I love "Black Dog"... Kashmir just moves me. It was tough to limit my choices to 5, but I did it... for now. Oh no. I left out "Crazy on you" by Heart. And no Alan Parsons, Boston, Journey, Styx, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd. I must quit. It's too painful.
