I got to have the kids and the house to myself yesterday, was wonderful. We made breakfast and lunch together, and really enjoyed ourselves.
For breakfast: Honeydew melon (a good one), strawberries, kiwis; some nice link sausages, and french toast (god I haven't had a breakfast like that in about a hundred years). For lunch: The grilled teriyaki mahi mahi caesar salad from the Old Town Cafe in Tallahassee, FL For dinner: My grandma's fried chicken from back in the days when she was still able to cook (she's 90 and quite frail). My grandpa's barbecued ribs (from back in the days when he was alive). My mom's barbecued brisket, steaming hot, seasoned perfectly, and falling apart tender. My mom's deviled eggs, corn casserole, and baked beans (thankfully, she is still alive and still cooks). My grandma's green rice casserole. My aunt Georgia's layered salad (she is now paralyzed from the neck down after suffering a stroke). My aunt Martha's amazing potato salad and broccoli casserole. My grandma's mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh corn cut from her own garden, and fresh green beans cooked with just the right amount of bacons and onion. My grandpa's fresh tomatoes, grown by him with love and picked at the peak of ripeness, sliced thick and put on a plate. My mom's wonderful strawberry shortcake with homemade shortcakes. My aunt Georgia's perfect New York cheesecake. Most important of all, would be to be able, once again, to have my entire family gathered around the table, all 40+ of us, eating the good food prepared by loving hands, and enjoying each other once again. It's funny how, for me, I look back on those family gatherings that I ate as a kid, seasoned with so much love, as the best food I ever ate, or will ever eat. ::wistful laugh:: Dude, am I fecking sentimental today or what? Gah I got myself all choked up just thinking about it. LOL

I know, catz. It sounds like our reunions except that you left out the pecan and dewberry pies.

But, it sounds like you'll need the 17-18 years on death row to make up your mind.
BTW, you know I love it when just before a special occasion, the perfect gift idea comes to me. Just a few days ago, I noticed that my Mom doesn't have a decent set of patio chairs. Perfect timing.

Well I haven't responded to this one yet because of one reason. I can't decide. I do know one thing for sure. The meal would involve a huge rib-eye steak! MEDIUM RARE
But I might have to agree with you on dessert 12th. Except I think I'll have a flavor that I just had the other day for the first time. Birthday Cake Blue Bell ice cream.

I've been trying to think of a good reply, but all that keeps popping into my head is "something that takes a L-O-O-O-N-G time to eat."
A perfectly done ribeye steak, medium rare, would be a good start. On the side either baked baby red potatoes or pesto linguini. Add a salad of mixed greens with craisins, pine nuts, tomatoes and croutons -- then ruin it by putting ranch dressing on it. Finish it off with the carrot soup my wife makes. It's astonishingly delicious. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but for dessert I'd probably have to go with pumpkin pie. It's basic, but hard to beat.
