Default Hmm, this should be a good crowd to ask...

The usual suspects should refrain from answering... I know you know. I'm trying to get more of a man/woman on the street perspective.

Default hummmm I think I know

Isn't she the female race-car driver who was the first woman to even have the lead in the Indy 500? I am so not into race-car driving but I think this is the name I keep hearing on TV.

Am I right?

You took the words out of my mouth.... I didn't know before last week but I'm very proud of her for not only coming in fourth overall but for actually leading a couple of laps, something no other woman has ever done. Yippee!!

couple watching the indy500...

woman: "Isn't there a woman in this race?"

man: "Yeah, Danica Patrick."

woman: "Which one is she?"

man: "Third car behind the pace with her left-turn blinker still on."

This is something I don't understand. Driving is driving; I don't see one gender having any built-in advantages in car racing. So why is she so rare, other than the male-dominated nature of the sport? I would expect there to be few women, but what women are there ought to be competitive.

Unless those smaller bladders mean frequent pit stops.

Yea similar skills sets for pilots and drivers.. 360o situational awareness, quick relexes and good hand/eye/brain coordination. Muscle strenght is required but more for endurance.

Lack of professional female drivers is also like you said.. it's been a male dominated sports. Plus theres not that many seats in the top levels of motorsports (probably less than 300 worldwide).
