Default 2005 NBA Playoffs!

Game 5 is on tonight... Yay Miami Heat!! ...booo Detroit!

yeah so I haven't actually seen a basketball game yet this year (still boycotting the NBA TeamUSA for losing in the last olympics), but since some people at the job actually payed attention to the races last weekend, I figure I should return the favor and watch grownmen running around chasing after a rubber ball... err, basketball.

This I found interesting: in a recent interview, Shaq O'Neil (Heat center) said he plans to retire in 3 years and then intends to join the Broward county Sheriffs Office fulltime. Apparently he became a deputy marshall this spring and is currently training to be a reserve police officer.

Soooo this could be my first chance at getting a celebrity autograph.. whether I want it or not (doh'! honestly Officer O'Neil, I wasn't speeding.. I was jus keeping pace with the traffic).

Default Basketball?!

The sport whose season is only SLIGHTLY shorter than baseball? (I'm a football fan and I feel robbed regarding season length.) I'll give a look during the college tourneys, but I haven't watched the pros in years-- last time I REALLY paid attention, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were still playing for the Lakers... Since it became less of a team sport and more of a slam-dunk/showboat contest, I haven't really been interested.

When I lived in Chicago, I went to the laundromat to do my washing the night of the last game of one of the championships. My roommate (who has less of an interest in it than I do) and I came out of the place to a cop on every corner. Literally. (It was necessary-- people were driving down the streets hanging out of their windows chanting, stumbling out of bars to scream, etc. It was like a high school football team just beat their greatest rival...) And every single one of the cops incredulously said, "You did laundry TONIGHT?!"

All that said, living within two hours of the home of basketbrawl, I have to pull for the Pistons... sorry, Ted.

How ridiculous was that? (I will confess to flipping past games and cheering for whomever was playing the US...) Some of the "best" basketball players in the world getting stomped by countries that barely can afford gyms...

Well, if you don't want to wait three years, you can always come to NYC with pengirl and me to star-stalk... I mean, meet and greet-- we've gotten pretty good at this now...

I can't believe you've never gotten an autograph before! I've done it less as I've gotten older (I only got four on this last trip-- it was much more important to me to see them than to get signatures), but when I was younger... wow... one of my first autograph sessions was after a USFL game-- a friend of the family played for the Michigan Panthers and invited us down into the tunnel after the game was over. Even though I was young, I was in seventh heaven! Football players EVERYWHERE, and many of them were quite kind to a goofy, drooling, star-struck junior high school girl...

Default And did you know...

that the powers that be on this site *beep* you for trying to use the plural for a male cow? (I tried three times-- it doesn't read context)

Makes it REALLY tough for basketball fans from Chicago...

Last full NBA game I watched was the last game of the second coming of St.Michael, he of the Chicago Name-shall-not-be-mentioned.

So what your saying is you stopped watching soon after the players switched from wearing tight short-shorts to the baggy long shorts now in use.
Hmmm.. I've noticed a pattern amongst woomin'folk regarding this phenomena

no, No, NO!!! That's NOT the reason! At that point in my life, I was just starting to believe that maybe CERTAIN boys didn't have cooties, and that they were... interesting... cute, even...

Although, now that you mention it...

Truth be told, I'm an eye-girl-- a good physique is nice to look at and all, but it isn't even on the list of determining factors for me...

Default Stupid game

I can't believe we're still talking about basketball when it's clearly BASEBALL season!!!!

Siiiiigh.... I've always admitted to being a very fairweather basketball fan. The Cavs were winning when I was in high school and we had players like Marc Price (my hero - he was short and white but boy could be play) and others whose names I'm not blanking on.

I started to care a little more when we acquired LeBron "King" James but he's only one man and can't get us anywhere on his own (we came close to getting in the playoffs this year but we wouldn't have gotten very far had we gotten in so there's no point even lamenting that loss). Besides, idiotchild recently fired his management and hired his friends to manage his money instead. And he'd been appearing so intelligent before. Quite a shame - I see him losing a lot of money really quickly. And not knowing it for about 10 years.

The only thing basketball does better are the sexual metaphors. I actually giggle more immaturely during basketball, especially with calls like, "he penetrated up the middle and drove the ball into the hole." I swear I heard that one once and I still don't get how the announcers said that with a straight face.

Default Shaq...

Well, in addition to being smart enough to plan for when he is no longer able to play ball, apparently Shaq is a decent human, too... read this article and also link to the primary story about basketball's original "Big Man," George Mikan.

Too bad I don't follow basketball-- I might really be able to like him...

Default Heat wins Game5, Game six tonight

Woohooo.. Heat wins Game5, 88 to 76. So it's now Miami 3 to Detroit's 2 wins. Heat lost a good player in the process though

LOL Awww pengirl

Sorry but grownmen with big sticks running around chasing after a small ball will have to wait until guys running around chasing after a rubber ball season is over (also depending on how the Heat/Marlins are doing).

<---- fairweather fan too
