Default Let's talk about Baseball

Ok, with about a week to go, let's hear the predictions. I have no opinion on the national league, but with regard to the american league...

A.L. East: The Yankees will win the east. The Yankees are playing very strong right now, and they have four games coming up against Baltimore (which is playing like the season has ended). The Red Sox have to play four games against Toronto which they have had trouble with (plus unlike Baltimore, Toronto is playing like they want to win). The Yankees should get the Boston series with a long streak of wins and Boston will have lost one or two games against Toronto. The Yankees will take two of three games against the Red Sox (since the Yankees will view the series as an opportunity to knock the Red Sox out of the wild card race).

A.L. Central: The White Sox will hold on...barely.

A.L. West: The Angels will hold on.

Wild Card: Cleveland will edge Boston by 1.5 games to win the Wild Card.

With the best record in the league, the Yankees will play the Indians and beat them in the first round. The White Sox will defeat the Angels. In the Championship series, the Yankees will defeat the White Sox.

And the fact that I live in NYC has not colored my opinion at all. LOL

Default Go Tribe!!!

Well, the Indians are pretty hot right now too - don't let the loss to KC yesterday fool you.

Unfortunately, our lead is now only half a game and we're off today while everyone else plays. Could be another three-way tie by the end of the day. Yeesh. Six games left and I'm having trouble breathing just thinking about it.

Default .

It about (*)(*)(*)(*) time that the Tribe lost. By tonight, the A.L. East will be tied and the wild card will be tied. It is going to be an exciting week (especially with the Yankee and Red Sox playing and the Indians and White Sox playing).

In his book Fair Ball: A Fan's Case for Baseball, Bob Costas railed against the Wild Card because it would be the end of exciting pennant chases. I think even he would admit that he was wrong.

Default I agree with you PJ, but will add that

whoever wins the Tribe/Yanks series goes to the WS against St. Louis.

Default At this rate....

...I'm going to be happy to get in the playoffs at all...we've already sold out the games and everything.

But Clevelanders are used to disappointment. We don't like it but we expect it

Default Fine

Neither will we and we'll both go in as division leaders. How's that?

Default The Red Sox

Yeah, the Yanks are playing well right now, but right now they are tied atop the AL East, and the Sox have more home games than the Yanks do (including a three game set in Fenway). I expect the Sox to barely hold onto the lead and win the division, sending the Yanks packing for the first time in many years.

Oh, and Big Papi will win the AL MVP. He single handedly won more games for the Sox than any player has for his team for the last two years. He is indespensible.
