Iran's government forbids certain parties from running in its elections. Presumably, these are parties of secular moderates and the people in them are very dissatisfied with Iran's current regime. After we knock out Iran's nuclear facilities, I think that the CIA (perhaps Mossad would be involved as well) should, by covert aid and infiltration, back a coup to bring down Iran's current government and set up those secular moderates.

or, more likely we'd get caught at least 50% of the time and make even more enemies.

We've done it before, but we had the wrong ethical priorities in the past. For that reason, past coups that we have backed have had negative consequences. That is why the U.S. government is currently reluctant to use this strategy. We need to focus solely on saving lives.
