Match and Yahoo aren't the only online dating sites to employ fraud to boost subscriptions. Have you seen the banners of scantily clad "women in your area" that link to AdultFriendFinder.com (a.k.a. Passion.com) or its sister site Alt.com? (If not, host any picture on Fapomatic.com and then view that picture at its designated URL.) After creating a free membership on AFF and searching for the members in the banners, it's clear that none of those women exist--or their IDs exist but with a totally different woman on the account. (My personal tests included 15-20 searches over 2 separate days.)

This is how the market works in the real world. More often than not, IMO, corporate marketing is based on fraud and deception, and we consumers cannot make informed, rational decisions.

For-profit corporations like Match and Yahoo are legally bound to consider one thing only: the interests of their shareholders: money. If "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Timothy 6:10), then these corporations are legally bound to pursue a root of all kinds of evil. If anything other than corporate malfeasance resulted, I would be amazed.
