Funny thing is I live in Ulster, in the Republic of Ireland.
I await the World's refutations......

tá sin contáilte agat
my emphasis But surely, kind Nawbut, in order to ascertain which, of the remaining two counties of Republican Ulster, is your stomping-ground I need only obtain your answer to one more guess. Are you sure that your logic, in the matter of these islands, is not as poor as your maths (or your Irish)? <punches air joyously and sings `Rule Britannia` three times, first verse only>

Tá se sin contrailte! Deirfinn 'beirt' sa gcás seo, i nGaeilge dhílis mo cheantairse. (the posessive case here is vernacular as well - none of that 'mo gceantar fhéin' stuff for us!)

Beirt daoine ach dhá rud.
That is Standard Irish. Of course, you are perfectly free to speak whatever Godforsaken primitive provincialism you choose but all I actually hear is that banjo music off the movie `Deliverance`. Quote:

Nah, he came out of our country as well - we were beaten by our own. This doesnt make it 'ok'. We got them back though, (this does).
Standard Irish - would you have us saying 'dom'? The Gaelscoileanna have a lot to answer for! But you are broadly right about 'beirt' being primarily used in reference to people. The exceptions in usage are usually in reference to a 'pair' - 'tá dhá chean fagtha' is rendered 'tá beirt fagtha' almost as an act of abbreviation in this instance. But its highly specific in how its used in this context; one would never say, for example, 'tá bheirt eitleáin lán Polonium 210 i Heathrow'. That would just be ridiculous....

I'm no fan of margaret thatcher, but screw argentina. Britain needs to get off it's ass, stop being so politically correct and implement social programs to increase birthrates, to support larger armies. Then, go back to conscription and start reconquering the Empire.
And by the by, no this does not mean staying in Iraq.
