Default Liberty vs. Equality

I have my own theory on what each side of the political spectrum believes is more important. Please post whether you consider yourself left or right or in the center and what you voted for.

I consider myself left, and I think liberty is more important.

I consider myself somewhat center. Liberty is more important. Mainly because I think of the word "libation" when I read it. The only thing I can connect equality with is like...Ecuador...

You're probably under the wrongheaded assumption that the left favors equality over librty. False.
The left believes some level of equality is necessary in order to have the highest level of liberty.
It's like asking if liberty or security is more important. The truth is that they require one another to a certain extent. They bolster each other so long as one is not taken too far... If one is taken too far, ultimately both collapse.

It's a false dichotomy.
Equality is not the opposite of liberty. The two are not mutually exclusive.

This is a false choice. Liberty is inseparable from equality. By equality, I mean equality before the law. Socialist equality should be properly referred to as "leveling" - ie pulling down those of merit, hard work, and ability for the supposed benefit of losers.

Default Liberty

Liberty (assuming you mean a socialist kind of equality), and I'm left-wing on most issues.

Ok based on your responses i am wrong. I might be thinking of people way-left because leftist teachers are now making cheerleaders cheer for girls games.

Default Equality

Although pretty utopian in thought, I would prefer the concept of equality over liberty. I just had this discussion with some friends of mine over how people can have "liberty" but to a lesser extent than someone else because there is no equality. Oh, and I am radical left.

But I agree they are not mutually exclusive and the best system is one where there are both.

Are cheerleaders typically given the choice as to which kinds of games they get to cheer at?
Seems to me if you're part of the cheerleading team, you cheer at all the %@#% games!

Default liberty vs. equality

I'm fond of both, but if I'm forced to choose, I'll take liberty over equality every time.
