Thread: Who Is Sick of All the Attention the George Zimmerman Case is Getting on PF?

  1. #1

Default Who Is Sick of All the Attention the George Zimmerman Case is Getting on PF?

I have Zimmerman-Martin fatigue. In addition to the eighty million George Zimmerman Part 5,085 threads it even bleeds over into other non-related threads.

Is it just me? Is there an appropriate amount of threads and I'm just not cluing in to its major importance?

Or have we hit the overkill point...finally?

We hit the overkill point a looooong time ago. And by "we" I mean America in general. The last forum I was on, the mods literally had to lock Martin/Zimmerman threads as soon as they popped up to keep the entire first page from being JUST that one topic.

Give it up! It's gone to court, they'll decide the final say. None of us can do crap about it, so LET IT GO.

I can't even hear their names without an aneurism.

The thing about this case is that it isn't just some random stand alone case. Regardless of what actually happened and the outcome, it's going to be referenced by people trying to take your rights away. Or, for those on the other side, it's going to be referenced by people trying to hang onto rights you don't like.

Even now it's bubbling up enough to affect actual legislation going through its process. Certainly it's showing up in all sorts of casual discussions.

And people are often wildly misinformed on the facts as various factions try and play this out for their benifit. So you get the hoopla that surrounds high profile sports cases and add in the fact that it'll come up, and, sadly in my opinion, the outcome will likely matter in the laws of this country.

I agree! I almost think **cue ominous music** that this was a top down sensation case to rob us of more rights.

As an outsider , I see more Americans in deeper and deeper financial trouble .They sense that their country is in desperate economic trouble but find it almost impossible to admit it publicly .This huge denial is channeled into the most convenient enemy ----- Them . And each to his or her own , Them .
For some reason this bubbling under the surface Lynch Mob mentality has stayed away from putting the blame totally on to one ethnic minority , but has used the insane two party divide as the trigger for anger that more and more resembles off- the - scale verbal violence. To the Left , the term Conservatives seems more vile than Kunts , and to the Right , the term Socialists is more vile than that same term.
The Zimmerman murder became a convenient way of displaying anger for the two basically different types of mind set based on attitude splits exemplified in main party difference , with all concerned arguing the Zimmerman details , but also finding a way of trying to apportion blame on ," Them" .Those held responsible for the whole countries loss of control of its welfare and destiny .Forces that were out there . Many . Complex .Only partly identifiable .
Them . Each person's Bogey Man , made clear once it was given a label .
At a personal level I have seen this basic and very primitive reaction focussed against many of my Posts .
Example :I have outlined in matter of fact terms that the greatest economic power on the planet is China . Now . Current . Domestic prices adjusted , China GDP exceeds the US figure .
And that for a variety of reasons , full effective control of the US economy is part controlled by Bejing . Now .
    These are incontrovertible facts .
The reaction is total denial or direct accusations of Trolling and inventing lies .
America intuitively knows that the very foundations are breaking up and to a huge extent cannot process and deal with the information .
A nation is in divide and shock and using what seem nice easy to understand "Good " and " Bad " , "Black " and "White "splits to channel their emotions .
    The Party system .
Zimmerman made easy , and ,
Europe versus us , the US .
Natural . But sad to watch .
    All , imo.

It does, I suppose, seem to portray archetypes to the left and right, but they are stretching to borrow them. There is a scene in Jane Austen's "Emma" wherein Emma is speaking of the young man her protege (whom she secretly looks down on but does amazingly benevolent things for) admires and says that he was "a man she could not admit into her own company".

Most of the people in defense of George Zimmerman--and Trayvon Martin for that matter--are people that no one on this board realistically would have over for drinks when the case was concluded. Yet, you are correct, we have canonized both of them for representing a diametric struggle. Defending yourself against "black" crime vs. defending yourself against "white" aggression.

A pot smoking, lean drinking kid with multiple school suspensions and a Twitter account that reads like a Day in the Life of a Punk Teen could not be like the J Crew wearing, upper class children of the President, but he represents black youth--appropriately or (I feel) inappropriately.

An indigenous-looking, tanned skin, gun toting paranoid with a history of aggression would hardly be company at most of these people's dinner tables, and, in fact, they would hit the lock on their doors if they saw him approaching their car. I'll say something "racial", ...he looks like a Latino gang-banger.

Trayvon was no more a helpless, honor student or "kid" than George Zimmerman was just a man standing his ground, but that is now the story.

Whatever role they fill in society, archetypal or not, well, it's really pissing me off!

We have more than enough burdens, problems, and immediate crisis' but now there are a large mass of people locked in for the roller-coaster ride. You can't reason with the TZ heads because they are absolutely right, you are wrong, and the rage continues.

    Just ridiculous.

I also think it's interesting that only four people have posted to this thread.

But if it was about the case and trying to say something one way or another, it would be 70 pages by now :P

I made a thread about this once, and then it just turned to all bad.

Absolutely true. Try injecting any kind of statement about putting undue emphasis on the case over say Fast and Furious, the economy, Syria, Israel threatening Iran and you are completely ignored.

    Bizarre.
