I want to understand Obama. I want to understand why he was so outraged over the racial joke Don Imus said last year that he felt the need to call for Imus to be fired, said he would never appear on the show again, and said anyone on his staff who made similar remarks would be let go.

I want to understand why he does not feel the same anger and passion over the things his pastor of 20 years has said and done.

This is a non-issue, just because his pastor has one hell of a set of ideoalogies doesn't mean Obama does, this is just Fox News trying to distract people from what's important, such as, I don't know, ACTUAL POLITCAL ISSUES!!!

Tell me one reason why this is important, PLEASE!!! Because I sure as hell can't think of one.

For 20 years Obama promoted this mans teachings as great. He based a book on him. He declared the man brought him to JESUS.
Wife, Kids, etc etc....

IOW for 20 years this man formed a significant part of Obama entire life make-up.

it doesn't reflect poor judgement, in that Obamma is a black man with political aspirations.
he knew the kind of church he was joining.
and he knew the kind of 'street cred' it would give him in the black community.
afterall, he didn't exactly grow up poor in the hood.
he needed a church and a pastor like this to use as a reference in case he was ever attacked for not being 'black' enough.

the problem of course is that, things that make you very popular with one group (black voters), can make you very unpopular with other groups (white voters).
right or wrong, Rev. Wright is a racial flame-thrower.

so 'no' , not bad judgement going to this church, becaue if he didn't, we probably wouldn't even know who he is.

My memory isn't that bad. I remember all the flack Ron Paul got for getting endorsements from ku klux klan members. He didn't say he agreed with them, all he said was "their money is as good as anybody's".

Very good point, Koga. But, Ron Paul has a long history. We can look at his life's work and see what kind of man he is. No one expects us to judge him solely by what he said recently.

Barack, on the other hand, has next to nothing. Yet, we're not supposed to judge him based on his votes in the state senate of Illinois, or anything else he's done or not done in the past. We're not even supposed to judge him by what he says or does now. We're expected to judge him solely by his issue positions. And, if you disagree with him on the issues, you're still a racist.

I think Obama is trying to cover up his true feelings for Rev. Wright here. You CAN'T possibly be a member of this guy's church for 20 years and NOT realize what his views and opinions are on these subjects. I think Obama tried to dodge the topic at first with calling him a "crazy uncle" and now that the heat is on, he's disowning him, but I don't for a MINUTE think this changes his beliefs. It's not as if this was some casual friend, this was a CLOSE family friend who baptized his kids, married them, a guy Obama heard every Sunday for 20 years, and was going to announce Obama's candidacy!!
