They don't have to work? So they are going out of their way to serve you, period.

It's something that would take a long time to get used for someone who goes to the U.S. on a vacation. Is it just restaurants or do McDonald's workers get tipped too? Bartenders? Cleaners?
Fast food guys don't get tipped, although sometimes you see a communal "tip jar" at the counter. Cleaners? You only tip for food or delivery or room service.

Um, what? If they don't go out of the way they won't be getting anything extra from my wallet. They can find a different job if they don't like it.

Glenn Beck brought up an interesting point. We basically subsidize the owners of the restaurants because they don't want to pay their employees full wage hourly. So we do. Intriguing take on it.

Nonetheless, I'm a great tipper.

They leave it up to you (the person encountering the employee's effeciency) to decide what they deserve. Why should a waiter that is rude and checks on you once be paid the same as a hard working polite one?

Yea, but I'm already paying for food that is probably overpriced and on top of that, I have to pay for the majority of an employees wages? Doesn't seem fair to me, the customer.

Problem with thought style: Some people deserve to be poor.

They're going to pass the price onto you either way. Shouldn't you be able to decide how much you pay, within reason?

You don't get it. You are being too ideological and operating at a level that the vast majority of waiters can't compete with.

I can't fault you for being consistent.
