If a child is acting up to the point that corporal punishment is indicated then the child should be held somewhere until the parents can take them for the discipline that they feel is appropriate.

I don't agree with that, eithor. I don't think teachers have any right to spank your children. Give them detention or time out, but don't hit them, especially if the parents are personally against that form of punishment.

My mum told me about a time she was given the cane at school. She was playing up and the teacher told her off and gave her the cane.
I've heard the cane could cause painful welts on your palms, making it hard to write. Any implement used for disipline that leaves a mark should not be used.

I'm okay with teachers doing it IF AND ONLY IF it is an agreed upon condition of sending the child to that school.
I don't think it's the greatest idea, but I think agents authorized by the parent shoul be able to discipline.
