Question Should Strangers Be Permitted To Spank Unruly Children?

Quote:
AN experienced nurse has been suspended after allegedly smacking an unruly toddler in a hospital emergency department.

Jeanette Stewart is on full pay pending the outcome of a police and Department of Community Services investigation into the incident, involving a three-year- old girl, at the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital on April 15.

The girl, who was in the emergency department with her mother and a sibling, is said to have been running around and misbehaving when Ms Stewart allegedly grabbed her, smacked her on the bottom and yelled at her to sit down.

Yes they should when your not around it should be up to the other adults in the area to discipline your children if they step out of line. You can't just leave them then when they start running around and screaming, setting things on fire and so on complain when they get smacked and yelled at.

I get where you are coming from, but I do believe disipline is up to the parents. It would be hard knowing what to do with a little turd brat running around stirring up (*)(*)(*)(*), but as I'm against smacking itself...

Well in my country, even the parents are not allowed to smack kids :/

This included a light tap, that is considered abuse and a parent can be jailed, or lose their child for repeat offenses. Stupid isn't it. I am against smacking in general, but it's up to the parent. Obviously abuse is abuse, but smacking... they aren't even allowed to pick up their child and carry them to time-out or anything.

As for strangers, I don't think they are entitled to smack another's child without expressed consent from the parent. The parent may be completely against this method of discipline.

I think the laws are similar here, although not as tough.

I do remember a case when woman was taken to court for child abuse for hitting her child. Problem was, she beat the kid around the face and head in front of a crowded supermarket. She argued she was 'disiplining' her child.

As for parents being taken to court for spanking their child on, say, the bottom, I don't think there have been any cases, but as I said, NZ is a lot tougher on this than we are here.

It's ridiculous 'Hay i let my kid run around the house all day and let him stay up to 1 in the morning. Whenever were out in public he screams non-stop and hits random people. I'm really afraid now because he found the match boxes yesterday and nearly burned the house down. He's constantly yelling at me to (*)(*)(*)(*) off and hitting me and i can never get him to do what i want but hey at least i don't hit him, that would REALLY screw him up.'

Spanking has been tested by time all the generations of children who were to be seen and not heard turned out absolutely FINE. Its time out thats the real wild card when it comes to raising kids!

Parenting belongs to the parents , I don't care what they are doing no one else touches my kids! The Parents need to do their job not the village .

Why would anyone choose to live in such a communist country?
