Me: The tactics are pointless and stupid,

They are hardly pointless!
They are petty and unnecessary. I would expect this from liberals, but I thought conservatives would be above this kind of stuff.

Limbaugh is bitter because the liberals interfered in our own primary and McCain won as a result. but you know what? It ain't their fault. It is OUR fault for allowing open primaries in the first place.

So rather than work to correct OUR mistakes by closing our primaries, he stoops to their level like some 7 year old on a playground. Its ridiculous. Yeah, McCain wasn't my ideal choice either, but he needs to get over it.

Yeah, but they would have done so anyway IMO...I don't think Operation Chaos had that much of a real impact. Mostly it was an (admittedly brilliant) marketing tool for Rush and his show. He got a lot of airtime because of this. Liberal networks were forced to pay attention to him.

Primaries should be open ONLY to people who have already voted for that party in the most recent election. And maybe more than once. This open primary crap is just absurd. People really didnt think it would be exploited like this?

There is nothing petty about winning an election. I'm glad to see Republicans finally doing something other than sitting idly by while taking crap from the dems and losing elections because we want to be the 'nice guys'.

Screw it, this is an important election and we have done nothing illegal. Let the whiney libs complain all they want, we'll just sit back and laugh our heads off at them!

I think when we get to the root of this we find that Limb is nothing more than an entertainer, and the goal of this was to get ratings.

Well, if nothing else Rush had solid capitalistic motives for doing this. So I suppose I applaud him for that at least.

We didnt need to cheat to win though.

Yeah, and to get attention. This "Operation Chaos" thing didn't really work so well, but a closed primary is the ethical answer..

Perhaps it is the right solution, but what if someone has a change or heart one year? Or what if someone like the other sides candidates better on a given election year?

Operation Chaos is just a publicity stunt, and in that regard it actually was pretty effective.

A year is too long - some states have it where you have to declare party affiliation 30 days at the latest before the primary. That would end most of these crossovers.

I knew someone who always did this, the idea being to get the weakest Democrat of all nominated and then he'd vote against him in the general election. It was a closed primary system, so he's a registered Democrat who keeps getting invited to local conventions and bugged for money by them.

It's really not that hard to cause chaos within their party, they don't ever have to unite totally.

Limbaugh says it was actually the Democrats who gave him the idea for Operation Chaos, by the way they crossed over in some early states to help make McCain the GOP frontrunner. The normally shy and retiring Limbaugh (italics added sarcastically) says he's having "more fun than a human being should be allowed to have."

Cheating implies that we played unfairly and broke the rules.

Neither is true.
