There probably is nothing beyond the universe. No matter, no light, no anything (and for that matter, since time also would not exist beyond this boundary, then it would be impossible to experience or even perceive). The universe is about 27 billion light years from end to end, and may well be curved, so trying to get to the end of it would be like trying to drive to the end of the Earth and hoping to fall off.

One problem I see with an infinite amount of mass, is that gravity wouldn't work. Well, at least not in the way we know it works. If an infinite amount of gravitational force is pulling us from all sides, we would not be affected by it. No planets, no galaxies, no orbits.

What is beyond the universe?

In: Astronomy

Universe is a concept of space/time. These two dimensions associated with each other that may not exist "outside" this universe. The word "outside" is already related to space /time. We cannot define to 'outside' beyond, before, or after this universe. These concepts are just made for space-time universes.
Time and space exists because this universe has these two dimensions. Other concepts may be scattered across all that we do not know. It does not have to be time after this universe or by that matter before.

I give you guys an example. Where does the mass that is sucked by black holes goes to? It is clear that it is sucked out of this space and this time, because all that stellar mater does not fit in a single point.

Answer

There is no simple answer to this question. Since we do not possess the capabilities to explore a space that is beyond our senses at the moment, we cannot know what is beyond. While science is making great strides to explain the currently unexplainable, at the moment we cannot guess what is "outside". There are mysteries inside that we have not unraveled yet.

There are plenty of different theories as to what size/shape the universe is. Some believe it is flat; others that it is saddle-shaped or convex; some believe that the universe exists in a giant bubble and there are countless other universes existing in other bubbles around us. There's no definitive answer on the subject as of yet.

Ah -- the oscillating universe theory.

How old school.
