Default Would you serve if randomly elected to Congress?

Congress is filled with career politicians and political families. This "monopoly" prevents any real change from occuring.

So, to "change" this, I propose a national "Congressional Draft," whereby - at random - approximately 525 average citizens are called up to serve from 4 to 6 years, 100 as Senators, the remainder as Representatives.

You would be required to have a high school education and no "felony" criminal record. You would not have to be a lawyer; legislation - as it stands now - is often too complex, and needs to be simplified for efficiency.

I would love to hear your opinion and your ideas!

I would love to serve in that fashion. Our current career politicians have lost sight of their constituents, and make their decisions based on their re-election chances, special interests, etc. We need common folk who know what reality is. I know that just about anyone can run for office right now, but let's face it, it's the "good old boy club", and most people wouldn't have a chance against these career politicians. Great idea!

I'd serve, but I think it's a horrible idea. Most 'common' people can't solve their own budget issues and now we're going to put them in charge of a few trillion dollars...

...then again, could they possibly spend more than the previous congress? I doubt it. lol

I'd love to serve and yeah, it would be a bad idea. Maybe if we got to choose randomly from a set of economists or something.

I think it would be a headache ... last time I saw a CSPAN of the senator's B.S. it stunned me to see one of them stand up to give praise to the winning game of a college team ... LIKE THAT'S WHAT WE WANT THEIR WAGE TO GO FOR ...

but if it was really needed I would!

I'd serve.

But it's still a bad idea.

I'd serve, but I think that the problem could be easily solved with a limit of 2 terms for all elected positions.

I agree ... that will make the Byrd's and Kennedy's Kerry's comer off their perch!
