Cool Thomas Jefferson and his support of terrorists...

The Alien and Sedition Acts:

Quote:
They became a major political issue in the elections of 1798 and 1800.
One act — the Alien Enemies Act — is still in force in 2008, and has frequently been enforced in wartime.

The others expired or were repealed by 1802.

Thomas Jefferson held them all to be unconstitutional and void, then pardoned and ordered the release of all who had been convicted of violating them.

These acts, no matter how unconstitutional...were the will of the people...at that time.

And that is why the Constitution should be above the will of the people.

Jefferson would have quite agreed.

How do you figure on that being possible when a majority vote can change anything in the Constitution?

Only a super majority can.

And there is a difference between should and would. The majority could get rid of it, but it should not.

Well, there are a few things worthy of changing in the Constitution.

All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.
Thomas Jefferson
