Default Should we make it a law??

Should we make the weapons ban a law?

I think we should really do it. If I was President I'd do it in a heart beat, even if it costs me the elections.

I also support registration by serial number, type, owner and purpose. I do believe people has the right to protect themselves, but the government also ought to protect the entire society. People should be legally required to report any lost weapon and be fined in case of negligence. Everybody should be accountable and responsible for the weapon they possess.

This should not be a political issue, but a social and security issue. I believe everybody wants a safer nation, no matter if you are Democrat or Republican.

DO YOU WANT A SAFER NATION? VOTE FOR KERRY!!

Default .

Pres, if you study up on the ban, you will know that it didn't have much effect at all.

I'm not a gun fanatic, but I know that a gun in my hands does not lessen your safety. And, taking my gun away has zero effect on crime. Check out the crime stats in states with right-to-carry laws.

Default Here's a novel idea...

... how about just enforcing the laws already on the books against people using guns irresponsibly and/or illegally?

Why should it be my fault if someone breaks into my property and steals something that belongs to me? Shouldn't the police concentrate on catching the thief instead of fining me?

Default Man your poll options are pathetic

You can pass 500 more weapons ban laws and have the nation's households searched once a week to attempt to enforce it. You're still going to have illegal weapons killing people.

Laws only stop honest people. If someone is bent on killing another person, a law against it won't stop them. Look at the Washington D.C. sniper incident last year. That weapon was legal. Had it been illegal do you honestly think it would have stopped the killing?

I think you're incredibly naive and overly idealistic. (But you construct a heck of a poll question.)

I'm sure you would like GWB to do something that would cost him the election. The weapons ban was a liberal feel good bill that did nothing to make our streets safer. Democrats as well as republicans let that bill expire for that reason alone. I guess Zel Miller isn't the only conservative democrat elected. Yu think?

I also think this is a security issue. Considering that we are facing terrorism, the right to bear arms is a right that shouldn't be infringed upon by any American who wants to protect or defend against. I think many Americans do feel that way as well. Gun control does not lessen the crime rate, putting criminals in jail does.

GWB has the right idea in using the patriot act as a preventative tool in stopping possible terrorist attacks BEFORE they happen. That doesn't infringe on our rights & as far as the terrorist - I could care less about their rights. I care about what it takes to protect us.

I have to laugh at the protesters in NYC who were arrested. Where they meant harm they were outsmarted by the NYPD & no harm WAS done during the GOP convention. Think about it for a minute. If they didn't have such an irrational hatred of GWB or the GOP there would have been no need for such tactics. However, since they are so violently in your face there WAS a need. I say the NYPD tactics saved these dumb protesters from themselves. Do I care about their protection? No, but I do care about those they intended to harm. THAT'S THE POINT!

I want a safer Nation & that why Bush will win!

BUSH/CHENEY 2004!

Default My, what unbiased poll questions.

Those certainly couldn't skew responses, could they?

Something tells me they're not interested in that. What's interesting is, the selection of the skewed response anyway.

Whenever studying test construction in my education classes, we learned that there was the correct answer, and there were the plausible detractors.

In this case the IMplausible detractor was chosen in spite of the intent of the writer.

The funny thing is that he has already done a lot of things that should make him lose the election, but his die-hard fans will not be deterred.

That is true.

Oh, come on. You are kidding right? Is there anything stupidity that won't be blamed on the terrorists? Seriously, do you forsee a time when a hillbilly with a Mac-10 will be able to foil a terrorist attack? Gun afficionados should just say that they like guns and at least that would be understandable. After all, rich men with "manhood" problems buys huge SUVs or hummers so I guess it shouldn't surprise anyone that non-rich men with "manhood" problems compensate by buying guns. If it makes them feel better, I say "go for it."

I think some gun control (reasonable waiting periods, etc.) do lessen crime, but on the whole I think you are right.

You have no idea what the patriot act is being used for. And, to believe that the patriot act hasn't infringed on our rights is patantly wrong. You can argue that the infringements have been reasonable, but you cannot argue that there have been no infringements.

There are some idiots in any crowd, but I think most of the protestors simply wanted their voices heard.

Again, I don't think that most people who protested hated Dubya, but they don't like what he is doing. I was not protesting, but I agree with some of their views (iraq war, etc.).

I disagree with you totally. We haven't had a president that used all the tools at his disposal for our good unlike sick willie did during his disgraceful time as president.

I disagree with you. This is as much an individual right as any of the others. I also know that in states where people do carry fire arms crime is much lower. Self defense in any form is a right & an honorable one.

I haven't seen you come up with any situations where the patriot act was used on americans.

I live in the area & I saw alot of idiots. Don't you think the govt. knew which groups were planning violence? Think about it. You don't wait for something to happen when you already know what these yahoos are planning.

You don't wait for something to happen when you already know what these yahoos are planning. It was a perfect way to solve a potential problem & it saved these nutcases from themselves as well.

Default Naive? look at what's in front of you

You all say gun control doesnt work, that it would fail so stop trying, or that that taking away the guns doesnt stop violence. A strict gun control law has never been attempted in the US. Small state-wide laws have always fail because you can smuggle anything you want from one state to another, you dont even have to hide it because there is no state border patrol. The fact that less that 100 miles away you can buy an oozie seems to make those sorts of laws flop. But look at England, they have very strict gun control laws, even the policemen don't carry guns, and there were only 12 gun related deaths in England in 2003. If that doesnt tell you gun control could work, then you're either really stupid, really narrow minded, or really stubborn (possibly all three if you're a bush supporter )
