Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose special investigative unit already has found probable cause that Barack Obama’s Hawaii birth certificate is a forgery, says the discovery of a 1991 literary brochure listing Obama’s birthplace as Kenya “puts more smoke out there.”

Ahead of election, Arizona asks Hawaii to confirm Obama's birthplace

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett has asked officials in Hawaii to verify that Barack Obama was born in the island state so that the president's name can appear on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Bennett, who oversees elections in Arizona, told The Arizona Republic on Friday that he made the request on behalf of a constituent who was unable to make the request himself. Bennett said Hawaii statutes provide for out-of-state government officials to request such information but prohibit residents from obtaining it.

Bennett, a Republican who is Mitt Romney's Arizona campaign co-chairman, asked that Hawaii officials provide "verification" of Obama's birth in lieu of a certified copy of the president's birth certificate.

Bennett said he could not recall the name of the constituent who made the request. Hawaiian officials have repeatedly confirmed Obama's birth in their state, but some people continue to believe he was born in Kenya, his father's homeland.

Bennett said he made the request about eight weeks ago and communicated with Hawaii officials as early as four weeks ago. He said he is simply attempting to affirm that the president's name can appear on the November ballot.

"I was just trying to put this thing to bed and agree to a constituent's request, which I'm allowed to do," Bennett said Friday . "This is a constituent from Arizona, whom I work for. I am the chief elections official, and I am responsible for elections, and I make the list that these people qualify for the ballot."

Bennett said his request for verification of Obama's birth is not connected to his anticipated run for governor in 2014.

"I know some blogs have said that this is pandering to the 'birthers.' But the two have nothing to do with each other," he said, referring to a gubernatorial bid.

House Minority Leader Chad Campbell, a Democrat from Phoenix, disagreed.

"This is just blatant political pandering," Campbell said in a statement. "He is jeopardizing the integrity of our election system to appease a fringe movement."

It could be a factor in the upcoming election. Looks like he's got some 'splainin to do in light of these two articles which state that he was born in Kenya. Also, it lends some credibility to those who have been dismissed and disparaged as whackos or "birthers"....Looks like there might be something to their claims after all.....hmmmm
