Then the day came when she found one of the reasons for her tiny, tiny household budget was that he had various girlfriends on the side, and he wanted to move in with and marry one. In those days, there was no such thing as "no-fault" divorce, so he blamed her for all kinds of awful affairs and behaviors, and did ratehr well in getting a very decent settlement for himself and had to pay all of $50 per month for child support for the three kids at home.
But I remember the day after the divorce when she came home, and broke down because the bank where they had a joint account for 25 years would not give a "divorced woman" a checking account!
After 25 years of paying a mortgage and bills on time, she had NO credit!
Another day, after she heard my dad had remarried, she broke down when she discovered she was entitled to NONE of his work pension, and only HALF of the social security survivor benefit she would normally get when he died. She had to go to work for $1 with her college degree, and worked for that wage at a big employer that ripped her off for 5 years before an Equal Opportunity rule got her and some fellow women employees a raise.
Yeah, so maybe I am A flag bearer for women sometimes, in part because it seems men are often vicious when a woman speaks up, and I think it is good some good and kind people feel they are not alone in the society, and get some affirmation that they are getting the shaft from people who would like the abuse to continue for their own selfish benefit.
It seems that the Republican/conservative men are the ones that always want to attack women, their rights, their benefits. It's amazing how Republican women are not able to see it and continue to vote for these buffoons, so they can give them the shaft. If not them, their daughters and granddaughters. Talk about ignorance.
