Thread: Sagging pants, your thoughts?

  1. Default Sagging pants, your thoughts?

    Good day everyone

I'm looking for help with more argument material for my sister on the subject of sagging pants.

I've been arguing a lot with her, her friend and my lady friend who all believe that sagging pants is a style, which technically, it may be, but I'm writing this because I'm out of words trying to convince them how gay a fad is that was popular amongst sixth graders in the 90s. Yes I mean gay literally. Urban legend says that this fad started with prisoners who sagged their pants as a temptation to be butt rammed. Now all the feeble minded kids seem to do this who desperately need to be part of a social group for friends. However, these girls boyfriends are not teens, they are in their 30s.

At the end of my argument I was told I'm judgmental and stereotyping. What's funny about that is there is something in common with all the boyfriends who sag their pants. They are all unemployed and living with their parents. One of them is in prison which I left out due to the sensitivity of the issue. And these guys are in their 30s.

Isnt' their a time to pull your pants up? Like a time you ask yourself, I'm done with self expression in order to be accepted into the social group of my liking and thinking fads of the 90s are still cool? I just don't get it. My attire is dorky but I don't fall under any particular social group just so I can fit into a crowd and be judged by them. I'd be embarrased hanging out with such losers.

Please assist me with more argument material when called out as being stereotypical and judgmental against D-bags that sag their pants. I'd like to hear your oppinions.

It has always confused me that this is a style associated with being bad, a delinquent, or a criminal. Sagging your pants and not tying your shoes is counter productive when having to run or get anywhere quickly. You would think that being able to run would be important to such people so it is a question I have asked of delinquents I see dressed in this style but have never received a logical answer for. Reminds me of a cops episode where a guy with sneakers that lit up when you move was caught quite easily in dark field he was trying to hide in. Hard to justify style choices like this if you are choosing to be or trying emulate a criminal.

Kids have a lot of options to be a bit different from their parents ... and be cool or looking sharp.. But, pants that sag more than 4 inches below the hip just look stupid... It looks like a person isn't smart enough to dress themselves.. Is THAT "self expression"?

IMO your comments tell more about you than I suspect you would like to know .In the nicest way, I suggest you shut TFU and let kids be silly kids .

LOL, running is definitely not an option with sagging pants. In fact, it's fun just watching them manage the steps going into the commuter train.

A legislator in Baton Rouge, Louisiana started a campaign against saggy pants and the slogan she choose was LOW PANTS? NO CHANCE.

Interesting... her campaign took place in Sept 2010... wonder if it's helped in Baton Rouge?

Ask your sister to draw the line for you. Where does "style" end and slovenliness begin according to her? Anywhere? If she doesn't draw the line anywhere then she's written off her own sense of fashion as having zero discernment, meaning her opinion on the subject is void. But if she draws the line somewhere, which I'm sure she will, then you should be able to lead her to the conclusion that walking around with your pants around your ankles violates her own sense of fashion.

Remember this look from the 1960s?

I had to wear a raincoat to get off campus dressed like that.

Problem is, it's not just "kids" who wear their pants around their ankles, it is adults too.

It was one thing to wear your pants "baggy," it is a whole nother' thing to wear them below your ass. It is ridiculous, they can hardly walk and look like they are holding in a turd with every step. It's funny how back in the day it was baggy pants below your ass, now it's skinny pants below your ass. Odd isn't it?
