Thread: Liberal, Conseravative or Moderate and are you happy

I read a interesting article today comparing liberals to conservatives as far as happiness in life is concerned. The article Why Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals appeared in the NY Times. Can't really say if I agree with all of it but I see myself in parts of it. I guess I would be considered a right leaning moderate and tend to disagree with extreme leftists as well as extreme right wingers on a lot of issues.

Now I am pretty (*)(*)(*)(*) happy with my life and hold the conservative view that yes you can pull yourself up with a bit of effort. I did it myself, and while I am far from being a millionaire my wife and I are very comfortable. My daughter managed to hit rock bottom while in college and spent 3 years in prison for smuggling. After her release my wife and I helped her with a place to live afterwards and a cheap used car but that was all we gave her, the rest she earned all on her own. She managed to finish school pretty much on her own by working nights as a waitress and now has a successful career and a good husband so yes it can still be done in these times. On issues like gay rights and civil unions for gays and finding a path for illegal immigrants in the country I am liberal in the sense that I realize mass deportation is not a viable solution. Quite frankly on most social issues I tend to agree with the left, so I would say I don't really fit into a box or category.

back to topic what I would like to see is where most posters here fall on the political scale and happiness scale. Give us a little insight into your life and why you feel the way you do. What I don't want to see is posters attacking other posters for their views. I realize that is a lot to ask but call me a optimist.

I am more Libertarian in nature and pretty much feel as you do about what you posted. I started in the field with a skill have now hold a position in the home office of a global company doing what I want to do which is a position I invented for myself. I am far from rich but comfortable.

I am very happy with my life and am doing better than my parents did. My daughter came out of the Marines with two kids and a worthless husband (now divorced) so started working her a__ off working two jobs and taking care of the kids and being so independent minded she kind of shelled out so I am helping her now so she can have time to go back into shape and go back to school. She never asked for help and tried her best but sometimes you need to step in and help.

Attitude is what counts and both mine and my daughters have always been very positive and realistic.

As a left centrist, I'm pretty happy. I'm living life the way I want to. Listening to some sad music, it's awesome.

Am a liberal and on SSI welfare for several years depend on food stamps and section 8 subsidies for my apartment room. I'm pretty unhappy with my life because I only get $698 in spending cash a month and its not enough for me to live comfortably like everyone else and I haven't been able to take a vacation since getting on welfare so its been years of this misery.

I am hoping for one day that more democrats will be elected so I can get a pay raise from the government maybe a free college education and finally have an enjoyable life and even maybe take a vacation but as things are now with all the conservatives running the house I think I'll be dependent on the government for awhile.

What kinda career does she have? I thought when you serve a prison sentence the companies don't want to hire you

I know that clinical depression can be severely debilitating. Are you doing anything to counteract it or can you? Goals, health, etc.?

no i may try shock therapy, there is a new thing out where they place a helmet on you and shock you out of it.
