The quick answer seems to be No. There are apparently two theories, the Abiogenic and the Biogenic.

Does anyone have a link? I'm curious if there really IS a definitive answer to my question, or is it simply based on what we've all grown up hearing about. (IOW... speculation)

My next door neighbor is a geologist that runs a consulting firm for the petroleum industry here in the Oklahoma City area. Maybe I can get him to provide some definitive info. Certainly his background must give him some definitive insight.
