What’s in a word? You call it “donating,” I call it “harvesting.” British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is urging an overhaul of the UK medical system to mandate "presumed consent" for organ donation.
While
the article has a very broad sense of organs (which could help prolong or save lives), I wonder about its impact on sperm and egg harvesting. The UK government sponsors creating children as a commodity, even to
providing agency assistance to make sure a father or mother remains anonymous to their children throughout the child's life. The fact that the donor is already dead, and their immediate access to the dead as a public health service, makes that anonymity a little easier.
