Chicken Little Was Right - The Sky Is Falling, But Where?
How long ago did we start paying attention to objects falling from the sky? The Chicken Little Fable (from Daddabha Jataka) explains the concept. The phrase, “The sky is falling,” is a common idiom indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent. This usage is generally derogatory. But, Chicken Little had inside info.
A mysterious bus sized spy satellite will fall to earth, as early as this coming February. This super secret spy machine, out of control, probably contains hazardous materials, and they haven’t a clue where it might come down, an “anonymous official” said, because the information is classified as “secret”. That means victims must remain clueless … they’ll never know what hit them.
“ Appropriate government agencies are monitoring the situation,” said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the National Security Council. “Numerous satellites over the years have come out of orbit and fallen harmlessly. We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause.” Don’t you feel better, now?
So far, the largest uncontrolled re-entry by a NASA spacecraft was Skylab, the 78-ton abandoned space station that fell from orbit in 1979. Its debris dropped “harmlessly” into the Indian Ocean and across a remote section of western Australia. OK, what the hell is in this thing, anyway? Don’t tell me there are “fissionable materials” on it. Why would a secret, clandestine cargo of unknown hazardous materials, be in orbit anyway? Doesn’t anyone think ahead? Thank goodness the US can’t spin this story, like they did for the famous Peru crater. Interesting that US citizens can read about, supposed, Russian Military Intelligence info on line, but, not our own. The mysterious Peruvian crater, likely caused by a crashed radioactive spy satellite, may be causing people to become ill in Peru. Massive cleanup in progress … never heard that about an ordinary meteorite before. Hundreds of people in Peru have needed treatment after an object from space - said to be a meteorite - plummeted to Earth in a remote area, officials say. Thats their story, and they’re sticking to it …
BTW, Birds in Great Salt Lake Felled by Cholera by the Thousands, officials don’t seem publicly concerned about those thousands of birds falling dead from the sky in the north west, either. Birds, Bus Sized Satellites, strange things are falling from the sky. Gimme an old fashioned UFO.
Falling from orbit, possibly with hazardous materials No comment on whether the satellite could be shot down by a missile. It would be inappropriate to discuss any specifics at this time. A senior government official assured that lawmakers and other nations are being kept apprised of the situation.
So happy the public has been alerted to this event so far in advance. Bush can’t spin this into a terrorist attack. US space trash is its own terror, especially when the contents, of this bus sized machine, are so classified that we hesitate to consider shooting it from the sky. Classified materials usually mean “extremely hazardous”, even radioactive! Officials assure they are looking into possibilities … whatever that means.
Of course it would be awfully nice if they told us what part of the world will be hosting the welcoming party for this satellite. Someone may even get a new swimming pool …

I am very prepared for this kind of disaster, are you?
